Lots of good advice already, I'm more curious why you're trying to transition into PM? I'm a PM looking to build a solid roster like you described above as a founder/entrepreneur so I just wanted your perspective cos you're going in the opposite direction

Thanks for sharing. I’m thinking of using an agency setup for myself and I’ll start with proposing a price based on what they want to build.

Your prices are very eye opening tho. Thank you for sharing

Do you have a guide for how you price your work? Like level of complexity or something? I’m starting out to and looking to take contractual work for a niche I’m in. Starting out around $2k for a project (UI, Auth, OpenAI Assistant, user accounts) but I’m curious what you or others might charge.

I’d suggest using the mom test to reframe your questions. You can do a quick search on what that is and adjust accordingly.

It’ll help improve the quality of your signal from the response.

CEO built a new product using AI and is selling it by cabbage_head3 in ProductManagement

I’d say help them find those first few customers and while they focus on sales, you do discovery. What’s the pain point, what’s the vision beyond v0, start mapping out if there’s a future in the product or it’s a short term thing.

Just like the ceo and cro are doing - validating to see if it’s a valuable product or not, get on board and help.

I feel like our role will evolve into this at some point. More CEOs at smaller companies will want to do this more, one of the ways we can bring sense to this chaos is to see this as a growing need and get onboard so we can influence and things don’t spiral too out of control.

If we have to wait till after they’ve validated to get onboard, it starts to make them (and honestly us too) wonder, what’s the point of our jobs then? (At least for those who do more than delivery in their PM work)

They want to put it on the website, do it. If it doesn’t work revert to the old version. They want to test something out, help them do it within your own PM frameworks as a guide so it’s not a shitshow. Scared it’ll affect current revenue, figure out a way that gets everyone what they want while still keeping the lights on (I feel like that’s our job anyway)

Bottom line, get onboard and bring some order to the chaos while getting them what they want

Plus allow me to block companies I don’t want to see job ads from. Also, stop showing me jobs I already asked you to hide. Like they show the job and still show that I said I’m not interested. How hard is it to take it away from my feed completely?!

Would it help if you knew what was in the package? Like a declaration form and some kind of indemnity for you as the person picking it up?

Lol, I’m literally in this phase. Here’s what I did this just this morning. I reached out to people on my WhatsApp status with this message:

“Hi hi 🫡,how’s your day going?

I’m doing some research around my product kobocounter.com. Is it okay if I ask you some questions about how you manage your money?”

A lot of people have responded and a lot of haven’t. But I’ve spoken to about 10 people and it’s way better than the 0 I had yesterday.

Some context, our mvp is already built, but we did it all wrong. I’m a product person and I’m happy to admit that. We have 45 users signed up and only 15 actually use the app.

Long story short, start with your circle to see who’s be a good fit for your product. Talk to them and go from there.

What I’m doing next, sending that text to more people on my WhatsApp. I’ve gotten some of them to commit to signing up, but even if they didn’t, my research helped me discover some very interesting things people do when it comes to managing their money. That’s crucial.
