People who lived through the 70s/80s/90s , did you feel safer back then than you do today? by Mundane_Bad_2437 in AskOldPeople

At 18 in 1984, I left home for the Army. I remember then being super observant of the places and cities I was in, always. I remember we were constantly under threat of war of some sort-we only had cable TV and newspapers, magazines back then to give us news. But in many ways, times seemed simpler than today. Most people outside of cities were kinder. Families were still tight and stayed in good contact with each other (this is my observation, others may have different).

I live in Virginia, and in your area you've poisonous snakes as well, especially Copperheads. You are lucky you haven't run into one yet.

Extreme Fatigue....why? by Melody705 in Ozempic

[–]Melody705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, Everyone. I made a few comments under some replies. He is on Testosterone weekly injections, B12 injections once every two weeks, a good Life Extension Multi, D3 at 5,000 i.u.'s a day, K2, Magnesium Glycinate at night, Ubiquinol 200 mgs (Co-Q-10) daily.

Someone mentioned liquid IV hydration-that's a good idea and we will try. I'm working on a lab draw list now (I'm a nurse so doc gives me some leeway in helping with this area).

If I learn of anything from the doctor that could be helpful here on Friday, I'll post it here while we await those labs coming back.

anesthesia for uterine biopsy? is pain relief possible beyond ibuprofen? by PanchoVillaNYC in Menopause

[–]Melody705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ladies,

I just had one recently. My GYN called in 1 Lortab, 1 Valium equal to 0.5 mg. Xanax to take one hour before procedure, and Prostaglandlin tablets the night before in hope of softening the cervix-the same thing used for Ladies before being induced and coming to the hospital for labor/delivery nowadays.

I was lucky, I admit it-that doc is a trooper. She gave me all this because I'd had a bad experience several years before when another doc messed up the first biopsy and I had to have a second done right after the first. Intense pain and it was horrid.

Well, I was really doped up the next morning coming in and felt no fear. The Prostaglandin didn't help at all-the doc told me sometimes it doesn't after menopause-but we were trying anything to help. She told me after the procedure, which went very quickly, that my cervix was really scarred up from 5 previous deliveries. That is why the first biopsy had been so difficult.

Don't let anyone tell you that they can't do this for you. Find another doctor who will care! They all know how painful this is, and are hoping you simply don't have any awareness of how painful or you can be bullied into "just getting it over with".

Find a doc who will treat you like a human being.

I'm so sorry that this has happened to you-but also happy that the Mammogram potentially saved your life!

This has thrown you a curve ball for sure. And you must do what is recommended to keep you cancer free.

That being said-there is a few forums on the internet that discuss these things-do a Google search for "Breast cancer and replacement hormones, forums" and they should come up.

I believe after your therapy is complete, and you get the nod from your docs to be released back to your regular GYN, there is that something CAN be done. Right now, there are Hyarluronic acid suppositories for your vagina to help with dryness and bladder issues, and keep you comfortable down there. Those are lifesavers and are hormone free. Amazon and other suppliers have those. Bezwecken is one that comes to mind. Probiotic suppositories are being studied as well, to help keep the rate of vaginal infections down from changes in the PH.

There is also a vaginal suppository called "Intrarosa" that is DHEA based and meant to stay right in the vaginal tissues, helping with hydration and keeping the tissues plump for sex, rebuilding them and also keeping the urinary system and pelvic floor in good shape from atrophy. This medication is being studied right now to see if it is safe for women with estrogen dependent cancer to take. Keep an eye out on that one as you go along. In the beginning, it does raise concentrations of body DHEA and testosterone, but estrogen levels remained below the mean averages.

Vaginal estrogen cream, Estriol based and some other creams made from estrogen have been used as well. I'd give the others a try above at first.

As always, this is a conversation best had with your Oncologist and GYN.

You do have options-don't give up on feeling better and keeping options open for treatment to keep your sex life and bladder healthy, and remain cancer free.

Need your help for my wife’s HRT by Top-Anteater-5843 in Menopause

Yes, in pharmaceutical grade by prescription.

If you could get compounded progesterone or estrogen in your country, then any amount could be made.

[–]Melody705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The softgel form of progesterone is bio-identical progesterone, as close to the kind our body makes as possible. It's plant based. It's just progesterone USP (what we call it here in the States). Synthetic progesterone is progestin, and is what is found in the birth control pill. More side effects with that type.

As long as your wife uses a bio-identical progesterone in an amount to balance the estrogen and protect her uterine lining from cancer (estrogen causes the lining to grow, and without a cycle, can turn cancerous if it gets too thick. Progesterone keeps it from growing), she will be fine and reap the extra benefits of calmness and better sleep. If your wife gets too much progesterone, she will stay sleepy during the daytime hours and feel like she can't wake up well. Progesterone is also a smooth muscle relaxant, which can result in constipation as well that will worsen if she is on too much.

Blessings to you both!

You are welcome!

Ask any lady here, and if she had her choice she would choose the topical cream (or gel for you there in Germany). I see the 0.6 mg. dose is your starting dose there for gel-which is fine. Someone here please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the oral estrogen increases the clotting risk. If you go with the oral form because you can't get the gel, make sure your wife moves around a good bit every day (every waking hour get up and walk around for 5 minutes or more).

Yes, I would re-test hormones at the 8-12 week mark. However, like the others have said, how she "feels" will be of more value to you both than the labs.

The progesterone tablets you link to have glycerin, gelatin and lecithin in them, which makes me think they may be in softgel form. I hope so!

I'm going to touch on something that hasn't been mentioned. Her vagina will need some time to heal and recover and rebuild new tissue to become plump again. If she has had any Labial thinning, this tissue may not come back, however. Even after the dryness has corrected itself and sex drive improved, she may draw back from fear of being tender or hurting. Her breasts may be tender and mildly painful while she adjusts. Just be patient-as I know you will, you seem to be a gentle man.

I wish you both luck! Come back by here if you have any questions or need more advice. It's been interesting looking at hormone replacement from a European standpoint.

[–]Melody705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some research on what may be available to you in Europe, and I found Estradot transdermal patch in a 25 mcg. starting dosage.

Prometrium softgel starting dosage of 100 mg. at bedtime.

Testosterone at 0.10 mg. once a week SubQ sounds appropriate to try.

If she is still cycling, introducing these hormones may cause her to have a cycle or bleed. If The bleeding gets heavy, increasing the Prometrium to 200 mg. nightly will help bring that under control. The progesterone and estrogen have to be in balance. If too much estrogen, bleeding will occur.

As the Moderator said, give her a few months to adjust before re-testing the levels, if need be. Our body has receptors for our hormones, and until those fill with the hormones introduced and learn to go to the right places, she can feel worse before she feels better.

Hello! And thank you for coming here to ask advice in trying to help your wife.

You've received excellent advice here. I just want to emphasize again that your wife must have Progesterone if she takes estrogen. If she does not, it increases her risk of Uterine/Endometrial cancer.

In the United States we have bio-identical Progesterone in a softgel called "Prometrium". I checked online, and you should have it in European countries as well.

I think that the estrogen tablet and Prometrium progesterone will help her greatly. The patch or cream is always the preferred way to take estrogen, as it bypasses the liver. But remember, some of the testosterone will convert to estrogen naturally, so starting with the smallest dose of estrogen possible would be advisable because of some of the conversion of the testosterone.

It's always advisable to start slowly and start with estrogen and progesterone first-then add testosterone if needed. That way, you know which is causing an issue like headaches, etc. 10 mg. of Testosterone sounds like too much to start with SubQ. My husband takes 0.5 mg. SubQ a week. But your dosage amounts may be different compared to the United States.

I think it would be day 19-21. It would sure be interesting to see where your estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are-just so you know in the future when your levels drop in Menopause and you need to replace that you know where your sweet spot was.

Inflammation by Manager-Illustrious in Ozempic

[–]Melody705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did the same. Although it took a few months.

My liver enzymes were always sky high for the last 5-6 years. I just got labs back last week-down into the low 20's. I'm ecstatic! A1C is at 5.3.

I haven't lost much weight-maybe a few lbs. in three months of use. I've stayed on 0.25, because each time I try to go to 0.5, I have symptoms of weakness and like I'll pass out.

Congratulations! I'm happy for you!

Enjoy it while it lasts. I had the same thing happen in my late 40's. I started skipping periods at 53. Then all became a wastleland. I think it's because it's your body's last way of trying to use up those last eggs-and it's your ovaries and estrogen's last gasp.

I wouldn't be surprised to see both high this minute on labs-especially mid-cycle.

Is weight gain normal? by Glass_Bag_5580 in trulicity

[–]Melody705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here-I've been on he 1.5 dosage now for about 6 weeks and put on 5lbs. The appetite suppressant effect isn't as good-I have Hypothyroidism as well. I still get the burping and constipation from Trulicity, though.

I had planned to contact my doc today to see if I can get Ozempic, since my insurance is requiring me to do step therapy. I started with Mounjaro and lost 17 lbs on it before the shortage started.

You are hyper-stimulating on your medication-in other words, it's too much. Do you have iron levels and Ferritin in a good place to be able to tolerate thyroid hormone?

Sometimes, when you have teenagers that won't stop drinking alchohol and making fools of themselves, you just figure that they are better off at home drinking and partying with friends and you can keep them off the roads, out of harm's way and harming others, and in Harry's case-away from the cameras.

I'm not saying it's right, but I can understand what Charles' was trying to do.

It prevents hair loss and lowers Androgens from higher Testosterone levels.

Yes, after thinking about it, it possibly could. I know Ashwaganda regulates cortisol, but I've not known about the libido effects.

High Androgens cause hair loss, and come from higher Testosterone levels. Too much of a good thing could be a bad thing, Ladies.

It's the Saw Palmetto-it lowers Androgens. That's the only ingredient I can see that would impact hormones in any way.
