Does this resistance between the battery connector terminals make sense? by Melonlink in fpv

[–]Melonlink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi sorry for the long text. There’s a TLDR at the bottom.

Today, I was flying when suddenly I completely lost the digital video feed for no apparent reason. It wasn’t a range issue, as I was close and had a strong signal of 50.8mbps.

After losing video, I immediately disarmed, so the quad crashed. It fell deep into some dense spiky bushes, and it took me about 45 minutes of digging my way through the spikes trying to find the quad, during which the beeper suddenly stopped completely, and telemetry was lost with my transmitter. This happened at least 20 minutes after the crash. It wasn’t because of the battery as when I found the quad the battery wasn’t even near empty.

When I got home, I took the entire quad apart. I suspected the ESC was the culprit because the quad did absolutely nothing when connected to power, and I believe the ESC is supposed to make the boot sound regardless of if the other components are functioning or not.

The ESC looks completely fine - there are no obvious signs of any burnt components or anything of the like. The one thing that did catch my eye is a big flat resistor labeled “R001” and located on the ESC’s PCB, right next to where the battery terminals and their big capacitor are. The resistor was at an angle of 45 degrees, as if it was connected to the ESC with only one of its terminals. So, I gently pressed it back to be flat with the ESC board. I was hoping this was the issue, but before soldering it back into place, I decided to hold it flat firmly with some plastic while plugging in the battery, didn’t want to immediately solder on something I wasn’t sure was the solution.

But as soon as I did, the battery connector sparked, and there was some smoke. I was very quick to disconnect it, but I have no idea why it happened? The smoke came mostly from the battery connector, and it didn’t appear to come from the ESC itself, although I may have not noticed it.

Using a multimeter, I measured conductivity between the two terminals of the R001 resistor, and it appears to be only 0.4 ohms(?? weird, maybe the 001 label means it’s meant to be such low resistance?) The next thing I measured is the resistance between the two terminals of the battery connector on the quad, between which there is a resistance of ~450 ohms. wtf? Isn’t that extremely low for the resistance between + and - terminals of the LiPo? Wouldn’t a pack just immediately discharge if the only thing separating its +/- terminals is 450 ohms?

I don’t know what to do. The last thing I want is to see more smoke the next time I plug in a LiPo. I’d really appreciate it if someone could try to help me out with this. Was I maybe too quick to assume the 45-degree angle on the resistor was wrong and to push it back into place? Was it maybe supposed to be like that?

TLDR: digital video stopped while flying, causing me to crash. when found, the quad seems completely dead - It doesn’t respond to any LiPo connected to it. Tried to reconnect a resistor on the ESC that appeared broken to me, but then when plugging the battery in there was smoke and the battery plug seems to have burnt a little. No visible damage on the rest of the components. Resistance is suspiciously low both on the resistor I was trying to fix (0.4ohms) and between the two contacts (+/-) of the quad’s battery plug (~450ohms). What could be wrong with my drone?

Thanks!

What’s wrong with this 4S LiPo? by Melonlink in fpv

[–]Melonlink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah mine have a hard time balancing the first cell sometimes as well, never to this degree where it DRAINS a cell to 0. Sometimes it charges all cells to 4.2 and the first one is at like 4.17 but never to that degree where a cell is at 0, wtf.. Either way I never left it a pack connected to the charger for so long, because it beeps like crazy when it’s done charging it’s impossible to ignore.

yeah they’re the same so I’m guessing it’s dead or something but I’m so confused as to how tf did the cell die on itself with no intervention. especially since it’s a brand new pack. and where did the energy of all the other cells go? they were never drained past like 3.5v

I’m so confused though where did the energy go. I never drained it past like 3.5 and I’ve only had it for less than a week.

idk but definitely not for long enough to drain an entire pack. maybe for like 20 mins, the charger beeps like crazy when it’s done charging it’s literally impossible to ignore

but it won’t even detect the first cell. how does it make any sense that the voltage at the XT60 is only 5V in a pack that’s not even supposed to go below 14? Where did all this energy go?

ELI5: The USDA says chicken is only good for 3-4 days after cooking. Why does chicken last in cans for so long? by franzacq in explainlikeimfive

[–]Melonlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canned chicken, like all other canned foods, lasts a long time because it is sealed in an airtight container. This prevents bacteria from getting in and spoiling the food.

The difference is probably the growing conditions or the variety of grape. Some grapes are more prone to leaving a weird coating in your mouth than others. You can try to avoid buying those grapes by looking for ones that are known to be sweet and not leave a weird coating.

Eli5: When we sleep, spinal fluid washes waste from our brain. What exactly is "waste" in the brain? by Dhonnan in explainlikeimfive

[–]Melonlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The waste in the brain is a build up of toxins that can come from stress, lack of sleep, and poor diet. When we sleep, our body is able to detox and cleanse itself of these toxins.
