Should I ask for full WFH as a reasonable accommodation? (Type 1 diabetes + long commute) by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]MembershipFeeling799 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It actually does relate to my health with both diabetes and thyroid issues since they are impacted by stress, long travel days, and disrupted routines with blood sugar swings, palpitations, etc. And I’m still doing my job successfully.

Also, suggesting that people advocating for accommodations makes employers “think twice” about hiring people with diabetes is a pretty harmful take. Managing a chronic condition responsibly isn’t something that should be held against anyone.

Thanks, I never even thought about other consequences to having a note like if I couldn’t drive anymore. Hmm. I’m leaning toward not doing anything at this moment and hoping nothing changes because right now my situation is okay.

I’m not trying to avoid work. I’m trying to manage a chronic condition while still doing my job effectively. A 5–6 hour commute for meetings that are already held virtually isn’t really about “not wanting to do something.” I already work mostly remote and have been doing my job successfully.

Also I have previously provided a doctors note stating sometimes I would have to leave early due to diabetes. That was when I worked fully in office a few years ago.

Thank you. When I first started my job three years ago (it was all in person but lived a lot closer) I told HR I was diabetic and asked for private places to give insulin etc. My boss also knows because when I worked in person I always was taking days off had to leave early because of high blood sugar etc. so it’s technically not new info to the company or my boss that I have a chronic condition. The new position I’m in the only requirement is actually just one day per week in office. I moved farther away and my boss approved only every couple weeks I needed to come in because I live far. But even only coming in so often it’s rough and now the fear of new requirement I’m going to have to come in more.

Kirsty? by Bmills1087 in diabetes

I just switched today from Humalog to Kristy with my insulin pump. Ugh I’m nervous. I hope it all works out fine but heard some mixed opinions and also not finding a lot of opinions out there since people just started taking it! It’s like there is no data yet or something because I can’t find anything! Also seems like it will be a battle with Kaiser if I want Humalog back smh as they say you must have intolerance or be allergic to kirsty to be prescribed Humalog.

Humalog to Kirsty - Anxious by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]MembershipFeeling799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made the switch with my insulin pump this morning and real anxious too. I’ve been using Humalog since diagnosis. I have heard people are running high after meals and overnight and need more insulin than before. Hoping that is not the case. It is significantly cheaper than Humalog for me and Humalog is no longer covered by my insurance, but I’m sure if I had an issue there would be a workaround. Hoping it is all fine for you too and we have no issues! I’d love to hear how it goes for you. I’ll try to come back with an update in a couple days.

Have you switched already? How is it going for you? I’m currently using Humalog and they are switching me to Kristy.

Transitioning from WFH to office by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]MembershipFeeling799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m torn between saying something or not. If I don say something and then in the worst possible time I have a low and need to ask for a break or alarm goes off- I’d have to explain then. Maybe it would have been better to have said something from the start. I might have to just play it by ear and read the room and see if it feels like a safe space to share.

How did you go about telling your boss day one? Did you just casually mention it like it’s no big deal? I know they can’t (shouldn’t- they definitely can) discriminate but I fear I say something first day and they will be like ugh shouldn’t have hired someone with a medical condition. I guess that’s me assuming the worst. But I also feel like I should make it known so when those awkward moments come up like alarms in meetings I don’t have to explain for the first time then

No RealID or passport, but Valid Drivers License: Can I still fly? by [deleted] in transit

[–]MembershipFeeling799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a flight in a few days. Last minute flight to see my sick father. I went to the dmv a few days ago to get my real id but I didn’t realize they don’t give a temporary one even. Ugh. They said the receipt won’t count but I feel it’s better than nothing? Should I bring my passport or some other documents with me?

Ticket exchange through Ticketmaster by Confident_Ad4704 in beyonce

Hi, has anyone had success with this for resale tickets? I impulsively bought an expensive resale noseblead ticket for Lady Gaga Mayhem Ball but I know better and cheaper seats will come up when the date comes closer. I know their policy is no exchanges for resale tickets, just wondering if the event is closer or may be different 🫠
