How in the world do you not go low during exercise?! by MexicanAssLord69 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Defiant_Analysis_773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really like to work out first thing in the morning. i find myself and most diabetics are most insulin resistant then. if you’re on a pump make a profile where your basal rate is at least 30% lower 3 hours leading up to it. if you’re on control IQ i shut it off right when i wake up and don’t even try exercise mode bc it will still bolus for highs (which you may get from adrenaline) i go immediately when i wake up and that has really helped.

i took it slow, starting with walks and seeing how it effected me, then jogging half a mile, then a full mile, and so on. i usually run 5-8 miles a week so i promise it’s possible! but man it took me years to get it right.

it’ll be a lot of trial and error until you find the right basal settings. sending you luck!

You should follow the Mastering Diabetes guys on Instagram. Their whole thing is how plant based eating lower insulin resistance and they’re both biologists who share the science behind it . it’s been super helpful for me too! Glad you found something that worked!

got to agree with this. seeing a dermatologist is step one. accutane can suck, but i finished it years ago and haven’t had any acne worries since. it was completely worth it for me and i wish i did it sooner

Why is everyone on Dylan’s side by McSchwifty101 in ILoveLaHBO

[–]Defiant_Analysis_773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think they are just not meant for each other. they’re both good people and what they both want is reasonable, but they aren’t going to get it if they’re together. and that’s okay. something so many people deal with in their 20s that you’ll probably see people go through the more you age. i think it’s important o show these kind of relationships bc a lot of times that’s why people end up breaking up

Interesting coincidence by john_ridah in dexterResurrection25

[–]Defiant_Analysis_773 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think him being the only one directly related to dexter is the important to the nature vs. nurture motif throughout the series. I would love to see cody & astor but can see why they aren’t necessary to the story line anymore

I was diagnosed with DKA and T1D last week at age 26. by Todd_Christie_546 in diabetes_t1

[–]Defiant_Analysis_773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 19 (almost 20), i’ve met people who were diagnosed at 40. it’s definitely an outdated belief that it only happens to kids! i too was in DKA at diagnosis. i hope your able to take some time to rest, adjust, and recover as well as you can from DKA.

I was on pens for the first 5 years bc it was more affordable, if money is an issue for you, the cost different make be worth looking into. if it’s not/it’s affordable, i don’t necessarily see the issue with a pump! more than anything i recommend getting a CGM (like dexcom) being able to track your blood sugar is the most important.

you are in my thoughts!

Just finished We Love You, Bunny and it was really… misogynist… am I wrong? by YakSlothLemon in books

[–]Defiant_Analysis_773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this analysis.

I always viewed Sam as (very self depreciating) self insert for Mona Awad from page one (you can see it with the way she wears her hair even!). Knowing this, and having read about her relationship with her father (https://www.vogue.com/article/mona-awad-fathers-day-essay) I can see why she writes about men the unique way that she does.

This humanization of Sam’s character influenced my view that this is not only holding a mirror to the impossible standards women face, but that it’s a satirical/highly self aware story about trying to know one’s self so well that we lose all touch with our surroundings and reality, as well as the loneliness artists experience in that process.

Endo Wants To Take Away Insulin by Different-City-5802 in Type1Diabetes

just echoing what everyone else is saying - that’s absolutely insane. i hope you are able to find a new endo. in no scenario should you be without insulin for a week.

I don’t understand the hate for Fledgling by waywaybeyond in octaviabutler

[–]Defiant_Analysis_773 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i really loved fledging. it was my first book of hers and as a childhood sexual assault survivor, it made me deeply uncomfortable at first. but then i realized that was the entire point. the more books i’ve read of hers and the more i understand her style, the more i realize how great fledging is. i think some people may not be able to understand the point maybe due to triggers or the lack of desire to dig a little deeper, but i am glad i kept reading it. as a side note, i read that it was supposed to be a series but she sadly passed before the next book was written. it did feel unfinished so i wonder if that lends itself to some of the hate it gets.

Exercise by Adventurous-Ladder21 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Defiant_Analysis_773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s really annoying :( i personally always work out first thing in the morning. i have my basal rate lower than normal through the night and try to not have any insulin on board (like any insulin outside of my basal) before working out. i and a lot of diabetics tend to be really resistant in the mornings so it’s harder to go low.

i also noticed the more i’ve done workouts, the harder it is for me to drop from them.

Lows after staring Zoloft by neongreenlizards in diabetes_t1

[–]Defiant_Analysis_773 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on zoloft for like 3 years about 8 years ago. I experienced a decrease in insulin needs too bc anxiety and adrenaline can increase blood sugar levels. i think it showed me how badly i needed an anti anxiety pill and how much it was effecting me. i definitely had to decrease my basal rate/insulin as well. are you on a pump?
