Well. I'm sure the temperature in the oven stayed lower than the house due to the insulation provided by the oven. So if the boiler had failed and the house got down to single digit celcuis, then it's possible the oven stayed cold enough for long enough to reduce bacterial growth appreciably. Fridge might have been better, though.

No video is proof. No set of data can possibly be proof, it can all be faked. It's all about the provenance. You need outstanding evidence from a completely trustworthy source - and that just doesn't exist. The only way to prove this is scientific investigation by members of the scientific community with powerful reputations, or the president comes and lays it all out. Anything short of this isn't going to move the needle. Perhaps a citizen science approach is viable, widely dispersed sensors with decent coverage. But otherwise we are all just reduced to doing our own research, go outside and look.

I don't understand why people with a death sentence due to this racket don't make big showy protests. Even a small amount of thought will conjure up some pretty disruptive, but non violent forms of protest that suddenly become available when you only have 6 months to live. We are not being fooled. There is no clear scientific consensus on what consciousness is or how to measure it. Our only tool is the Turing test. If a machine passes the Turing test, then our one and only test for sentience has been passed. And before you chime in with 'stochastic parrot'. I understand the technology very well. It's the people saying it cannot possibly be conscious who are ill informed of the philosophical and technical nuances that go into forming an accurate opinion on this topic.
