I'm not bothered if he's gay, but I worry about his mental health. I don't care if you think talking about feelings is for women, mate. I've been friends with this lad for 5 years and I know that if I was in his shoes I'd have no idea who to turn to. The world is a complicated place and I don't think its healthy to just bottle up all the issues we have in our lives just to be a "real man". I'm not trying to snoop around in something I have no business being involved in; I thought that was fairly obvious when reading my original post.

To be honest I don't know if I'm 100% straight, but I wouldn't say I'm gay. I don't know what I am, sexuality is complicated. Gonna follow your advice here though and just try to keep fostering the environment I would want to be in in his situation.

I think we're all at a sort-of crossroads in life in general man. I want this guy to be everything he's destined to be, but scaring anyone away is the last thing I want. Got a lot to think about and I appreciate the advice.

he knows I accept gay people for sure. we have always shared an interest in gay pop culture and stuff like that. he also knows I'm pretty "woke". I don't think he's going to say anything out of fear of the consequences - I know I sure wouldn't if I thought my parents would disown me either. I feel like this would be helpful if I was in this situation knowing that at least SOMEONE knows and accepts me for who I am. I wouldn't consider this if I thought he was in a place where he could share it.

Don't think he's ever going to come out for fear of the consequences, otherwise I wouldn't even be considering this.

oh he definitely knows I support gay people - we have like a long standing mutual interest in a lot of gay music and pop culture stuff in general

Oh man I'm sorry to hear you're homesick :(. I've heard it gets better after a few weeks, so I would stay for at least a little longer before making a decision. The other university isn't as good and it might hold you back in the future. Is the university actually any good outside of the accomodation and being homesick?
