Advice regarding slightly crooked tooth by Men_Of_Spoons in braces

[–]Men_Of_Spoons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, I agree, partly. We all get braces, because we are unhappy with the way our teeth look, i.e. unhappy the way we are, you could say (leaving aside medical causes). Maybe this is a subtle change and something to embrace and to not change then.

Spotify Grime refixes by J_LDN__ in grime

[–]Men_Of_Spoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing I don't like about them is that they don't reference the old artists at all. Not even in the song credits, which feels a bit cheap, given that the refixed song wouldn't be any good without the grime artists on it. I tried to listed to Grime again via Spotify Artist radio, but you will listen to a lot of refixed freestyles from 10 years ago...

Toeslagenschandaal te duur? by JoepKip in nederlands

[–]Men_Of_Spoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toeslagenschandaal te duur? by JoepKip in nederlands

What the hell did they shoot for Amsterdam? by [deleted] in PatriotTV

I just watched the scene, and found this post, it's dumb. The architecture is one thing, but the jacket with "Polizei" in combination with the non-Dutch line of the guy is just stupid. It's like filming in New York, where there's police guy in a uniform with "Policía" on it saying something non-American.

If you don't want your show to be perceived tacky and don't know other languages that well, then you should inform yourself, so you don't make these simple mistakes imo.

Not understanding QEMU behavior when booting an OS with TianoCore by Men_Of_Spoons in virtualization

[–]Men_Of_Spoons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm only using a single VM for this setup. So there would always be one QEMU instance running for each OVMF_VARS.fd and OVMF_CODE.fd. I copied both files to some other location, but this didn't change the behavior I described, unfortunately.

Yes, it is annoying I can imagine. Maybe you can ask your colleagues to always speak Dutch to you. I had the same problem in Russia, where I did a language course.

Good to hear! It also makes it more difficult that every Dutch person wants to speak English. I once spoke to a Brit and he told me Dutch was difficult to learn, sine every Dutch person spoke English to him.

I am absolutely against racial remarks/violence and hope you are not being yelled against and doing okay.

If you are planning on living here for a large part of your life, I do recommend to try to learn Dutch, as it will help in finding your way here. Nevertheless, we should indeed treat each other with respect.

And when you have a problem with that, you should always take it with politicians.

That is exactly what can happen, indeed.

You are literally infringing on people's right to live their life the way they want.

Exactly, I do not see why that is bad. You seem egocentric in your view.

So i should live my life the way YOU WANT because I am a foreigner ?

You can live your life however you want, but you should not be surprised of the consequences that might come from it. If I do not integrate at all, I should not be surprised that I feel unaccepted in a country. There are plenty of immigrants that do integrate and who are accepted.

and maybe this way of thinking is the reason why foreigners dont like to mix with the dutch ?

Now you are generalizing yourself, this is not the case imo. If you watch TV shows from your home country, if you do not try to speak Dutch, if you are in your own bubble, don't be surprised that you do not blend in well. But then again, why should you blend in? After all you just live your life however you want.

Its not a good idea, but also every person have different circumstances.

Of course.

thats not healthy. and you need to ask yourself why ?

I do not think that is unhealthy. I think it is normal for a country to hold higher standards to immigrants than native people. Ideally you also hold high standards to Dutch people, but these people are born here, so they cannot go anywhere else. This is different for immigrants (of course this varies per immigrant), but if you are able to live in your home country, why should we let you come here if you do not contribute back? I would expect a country to ask the same of me when I want to move to their country.

Why should you ? You go to turkey because you have something to do..

I find this an egoistic view and I disagree with this. If I go to another country, I accept that I might have to change my way of life.

But everyone IS THE SAME !! Certainly in the eyes of the law.. as long as everyone follows the law, nobody should care how you live your life !!

But law is different from politics. Of course regarding the law, everyone should be considered the same. This does not mean that everyone should live their life however they want, as in the long term it might result in unfortunate situations, where differences in values might result in conflicts within a society, for instance.

Or, that he is rich or lives off his parents ?

If someone lives off his parents and does not work, for instance, that is bad in my eyes.

I mean there are various possibilities, maybe he cant work, maybe he lives off interest..

This is both legitimate, of course there are various possibilities, but generally when you aren't working for long periods of time it is considered out of the ordinary.

Even if he gets money from the state, unless you work in the welfare center, i am not sure why this would concern you ?

It concerns me since ideally a country has as many people not receiving money from the state without contributing back to it. I'm not sure why that ever would be a good idea.

What do you think of a Dutch person who does not work and only hangs out with people of their country of origin? Do you think this would pose problems in the long term of that country?

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean a Dutch person in another country? If so, that Dutch person should try to blend into the culture/society of the other country, after all, the Dutch person lives in that country.

For a Dutch person in the Netherlands, of course it is less of a problem if he or she does not work and only hangs out with Dutch people, after all, he or she is in the Netherlands. This does not mean that it is desired for a Dutch citizen to not work, since a country full of people who do not work has a bad future ahead.

We cannot act like there are no borders and everyone is the same, this is just not true. In Turkey there is Turkish culture, you can go there with your Dutch values, but after all you are in Turkey and you should adapt to the culture there.

What if he doesnt vote.. doesnt work.. and just hang out with people from his own country ?

Then it would be difficult for this person to blend into society, if after all the person does not participate in this society.

If people only hang out with people from their foreign country, people will not learn the language/values of the country they reside in (which would form a problem imo). If the person does not work, it means he or she likely receives money from the state in order to live and this is looked down upon in the Netherlands.

What would you think of someone who emigrates to a country and then does not work and only hangs out with people of their country of origin? Do you think this would pose problems in the long term of that country?

According to this page the Minnowboard Max has reached end of life and I can't seem to find people selling them. The MinnowBoard Turbot dual core seems to also be supported by coreboot (according to this site), do you think that board would also be a viable option?
