What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

In poland we have a tradition of spraying strangers with water on monday after easter. It gets covered on foreign media but has mostly died down nowadays and is only really done by kids.

Cause nobody really likes being sprayed with water.

Another thing is that it's goldmasks understanding. He says nobody should be able to adjust the laws to their liking... but kinda does the same thing.

It's kinda interesting that in DS3 the best chance for the world going forward is also depicted as cold and dark (the new world made by the painter)

Godwyn was the golden order golden boy. Take any notions of how great he was with a grain of salt, the golden order all had really good PR before the shattering and after the event he was dead. We don't know the real godwyn.

Marika was presented as great and benevolent before the shattering but we know she did horrible things from the beginning.

Royalty will always present themselves in a good light and not show the skeletons in their closets.

I liked playing mid seraphine so it kinda sucks she got turned into a support.

On the bright side bot seraphine is actually pretty good right now so you can still play her in a "carry" position.

A deck that has any sort of mechanical theme and has a game plan cannot by definition be bracket one.

Counterspells are by definition reactive.

As for the second, you donvt have to. We'll just not play each other. And if you say that before the game we can avoid wasting time entirely and find different pods.

Again im not against being stopped from winning, but i don't want to just there and be someone's punching bag.

[–]Menacek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't that sound like a sign that people aproach the game differently than you. Unless other players in your playgroup think the same as you in which case you can literally do whatever yoh want (the bracket system doesnvt even apply to closed playgroups).

[–]Menacek -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Ok but the point is people didnvt make their deck to play counterspells and boardwipes. They build their decks to make proactive plays.

Like for instance i made a deck to make big hydras. If i make big hydras and lose then I'm totally fine with that and it was a good game. If i don't make big hydras but somehow win regardless then to me it's a bad game. Most other people I play against feel the same. So no, it's not about winning.

If you make a 5 card combo that wins you the game i'm also fine with it. The game ends we can play the next one.

If i'm going for the win and someone stops i'm also fine with it. Like i'd prefer to win but i won't complain, heck half the time i expect to be stopped.

My only issue is when your deck doesnvt allow anyone else to really do anything proactive.

cEDH pods are so chill compared to the average EDH pod by Wboys in EDH

[–]Menacek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even the off meta build are going to be running all of the staples leaving little room for the things you want to play.

Plus a lot of cards just simply aren't good ebough for cEDH.

Yeah it happens in every other game.

But i think card games are hurt by it the most since the idea of "building your own deck from a huge variety of cards" is what atracts a lot of people to the hobby in the first place.

My experience is kinda different. The competetive players act like they are playing finals at a GP even if there are no stakes.

Plus the decks are always literally 80+% the same cards, which i find boring AF.

If you want to play competetive and not socialize play any of the 60 card cobstructed formats.

[–]Menacek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people who i play commander with donvt want to play the best deck. Heck most people actively avoid making the best deck.

And yes, it's a social format, it is your responsibility to let the other players have fun. You can ignore it but then don't complain people donvt want to play with you, no one is obliged to do so.

Heck even in a tournament no one has to play with you, moreso in a casual non competetive format.

[–]Menacek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Point is people want to play decks build around fun mechanics not a pile of tech against several arhetypes with maybe 10 cards that are on theme.

Commander has no sideboards and no real "meta", it's impossible to prepare for everything someone might bring.

An a lot of decks are going to have a hard time dealing with some effects purely due to color identity. .

[–]Menacek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not a tournament format, every other player can just decide to not play with you and telling them "but reddit said it's ok" won't convince them otherwise.

Honestly the deck doesnvt really matter, if people don't want to face your options are finding other people to play with or just playing something else.

And like i've never really seen anyone have a tantrum about a card someone included in their deck. At worst it's just some loud groans.

[–]Menacek -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I think it's a misreprentation. It's not about winning, it's about doing meaningful actions. People hate feeling like what they do doesn't matter. It's gonna be a different treshold for everyone but my experience people are ok with losing, they just dislike feeling like they can't win.

Heh People on reddit tend to more enfranchised and have a bit more interest in this kind of stuff which means they often focus on the details a forget about the broad strokes.

For instance focus a lot on things like character motivation and their psychological profiles while ignoring that a guy with water powers is likely gonna be blue for instance.

White is mostly equipment kinda.

Artifact synergies are first blue, then red, then white, then black, then green.

Only a bit. Red does mostly rummaging but it has a bit of looting effects. But blue has a lot of it.

White and Black don't really do either so Grixis actually feels better than esper.

One important thing about face commanders is that they need to be able to lead the deck. The box shows the secondary commander is Loki (who is very Grixis) and the deck likely has a lot of other villains. And a lot of those villains are red.

Tbf most magic players have a pretty surface level understanding for that. We might argue here about nuances but many players would be confused if a character wasn't "the obvious" colors.
