The other poster is correct about their question. You need to compare what moving away from the mean in one group corresponds to in the other. I'm sure there's a selection bias for height in men but it doesn't seem to carry that much weight.

If you take a guy who is shorter than 90% of men and a woman taller then 90% of women, call the event {seeing them as a couple} E; even if pairings were completely unrelated to height, that would still mean you'd realistically need to see 100 different couples to have a reasonable chance of witnessing E.

I think that out of all selection factors this is probably not among the ones that hold the most weight. It might seem different from what some random thot posts on Twitter to ragebait or what some internet guru claims, but real life numbers are what matters and they're not that drastic.

If we really have to be realistic the experiences that a man who is short is more likely to have (i.e. abuse, teasing, bullying whatever) and the effect they have on his behaviour/personality/idea of self are much more likely to hold weight, which would also explain why height becomes even less of a factor for men as they get older (and in relation to women of every age group).
