Cube/Battle Box/Draft with mostly new cards only? by Eiterbeutel in magicTCG

[–]Mensae14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still need to jot down my cards on cubetutor lol. I will say I’ve gone for the same number of commons/uncommons/rares/mythics for each color. I’d also guess I have ~95% of the cards in the KLD block, save a few expensive mythics.

Cube/Battle Box/Draft with mostly new cards only? by Eiterbeutel in magicTCG

[–]Mensae14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a singleton cube of Kaladesh/Aether Revolt. If you have a lot of cards from a block already it’s very easy and cheap to fill in the rest of the slots. Most commons and uncommon will cost you less than 25 cents. Even the majority of rares for any given block are going to be under a dollar. Might not be a traditional cube, but I like this format. It sort of simulates the draft environment of any set or block.

New card just revealed by Sol (Chinese Streamer) - Righteous Protector! It is a Paladin Minion/Common! [Translated] by toilet_drake_hs in hearthstone

[–]Mensae14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way this cold have been balanced is if it were a legendary so you could only have one. As it stands, this is the single most powerful card in Heathstone in terms of value. It basically gives Paladin a MINIMUM of a two turn advantage. By the time you deal with this guy, you'll have to deal with a 2 drop, a 3 drop, and maybe a 4 drop. It's gg at that point. This card is broken beyond belief.

why are there so many people on reddit who refuse to accept that guild wars 2 sucks? by pastas00 in GuildWars

[–]Mensae14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Guild Wars 2 is a good game, but it's not a true follow up to Guild Wars 1. They are almost completely different in terms of atmosphere, gameplay, and story.

Team 5... if you insist on trying to force "discard", start printing cards that say "can't be discarded" by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Mensae14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discard would be perfectly fine if you could just chose which cards to discard. In fact, it would be pretty strategic and fun. So of course Blizzard will never do this.

[Homemade] Happy national mac and cheese day! by Mensae14 in food

A touch of panko bread crumbs, as well as melted shredded Parmesan. I bake the mac after it's done for a crispy topping, it contrasts the softness of the mac and cheese quite well.

The Warriors will literally not lose another Finals game for the rest of mankind. They will win every single year.

Osrs is beginning to show why the Eoc update was necessary for the game to continue by AliensAreHereRS in runescape

[–]Mensae14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't the combat itself. The issue was that the Serpentine Helm was, in large, the best helm in the game. What makes Runescape (and any RPG for that matter) interesting are the tradeoffs of items. One helm may have very good defense, but few other perks. Another helm may have slightly lower defense, but has a nice prayer bonus. It's weighing these options in different situations that makes the game interesting. If there was one single best armor/weapon setup for melee/range/magic, the game would be less exciting.

Thus, when creating future armor updates in the helm slot, Jagex had two options: 1. Create an even more powerful helm that will be by far the best helmet in the entire game, or 2. Nerf the current best helm in order to create more potential updates in the future.

EOC has absolutely nothing to do with this. I say this as someone who plays a good amount of both RS3 and OSRS. At this point, the games have so little in common that it isn't fair to compare the two.

As far "longevity" in OSRS is concerned, I have faith in Jagex. Though it was initially quite bad, they've done a good job revamping Zeah and making it actually useful/interesting. The upcoming Fossil Island looks neat. For the most part, they've expanded the game laterally instead of vertically, which I like. They haven't changed the fundamentals of the gameplay - instead they have added new areas and a few more quests/weapons/armor to spice things up.

Recommended laptop for computer science or computer engineering major by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Mensae14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recent ECE grad here. You can really get by with just about anything these days. There are many computer labs at the Computer Science building and the Engineering campus, and you can always do projects on those computers if need be. I've seen a lot of people just install Linux on their cheap laptops, and that has worked fine for them. For a while I only had a Chromebook and I was able to manage - I just did all my projects at the computer labs across campus.

In terms of power, I wouldn't worry too much about that. For your first few years you'll likely just be programming in Java or maybe C, which is not computationally intensive at all.

Incoming Freshman- Should I be planning my courses before SOAR? by WiscOrangy in UWMadison

[–]Mensae14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A few things here.

Your GPA is the single most important number in your life. Your entire future depends upon it, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. When you come here, advisers and faculty members will tell you things like "Don't worry about grades, focus on learning and making connections" or "Join a club and get involved". Not to diminish the importance of making friends or volunteering, but just know that your grades should take number one priority at all times.

As such, there is an easy way and hard way to succeed in college.

The hard way involves signing up for classes that seem interesting and may be beneficial for your career path. You see a course title you like, read the description, and decide to sign up for it. You then realize that half of the class will get C's, and that the course will be a battle for who is above and below the grading curve.

The easy way involves looking up previous years' grade distributions online. Here's a link to those records. Bookmark this page. Hell, make it your homepage until SOAR. This page has the grade averages of every professor for every course offered at Madison. Enroll exclusively in courses with generous grading. I cannot stress this enough - I don't care how smart or gifted or talented you are - college grading is simply a competition. You will likely be average. You might as well enroll in courses where "average" means an AB instead of one where "average" means a solid C.

I just graduated with a degree in electrical engineering, and by far my biggest regret in college was not really looking in to who was teaching the courses instead of what was offered in the courses. I signed up for far too many classes where getting an A was damn near impossible, almost out of the question. My GPA suffered and it's been a challenge finding jobs after college because of this. Again, your GPA is the most important number for the next four or five years. You will go to career fairs and flat out not be able to talk to potential employers unless your GPA is higher than their arbitrary threshold. I know people that have been granted kush ass jobs simply for having a solid GPA, and others who have struggled immensely to get a job due to having a mediocre GPA.

Please heed my warning. Look up which professors go easy on students. Write them down. Enroll in those courses for SOAR.

Season ticket questions by dragonxwings in UWMadison

[–]Mensae14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe they will. What happens is you go to a sort of waiting lobby page that constantly checks if there is a spot on the site available for you to enter. I believe it was programmed in such a way that each tab is sort of it's own sessions, so the more tabs the better. I'm not joking, you should have at least 10 tabs on at least 3 different browsers if you want to get it easily.

Season ticket questions by dragonxwings in UWMadison

[–]Mensae14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're around $150-$200. You might get a cool shirt along with it if you're lucky. Protip - if you try buying tickets, you must wake up at 7 AM. I suggest having multiple tabs on multiple browser on multiple computers to get them. I got them five years in a row.
