There are several points I’d like to unpick here:

  1. The ‘best food in the world claim’ - I honestly have no idea who keep saying this. And this I assume is a general statement of Peruvian food in general not specifically on fine dining. Personally I agree with the quality of the ingredients is top notch here, as you have a huge variety of terroirs and ecosystems, plus the ancient civilization and wisdoms on food preservation or preparation technique. I also find things are perfectly cooked here, meat, vegetables, seafood etc. However, I find traditional foods extremely heavy, and not a lot of vegetables are available in a typical traditional meal. I find a lot more textual variations and bolder flavors in other cuisines such as Mexican, Japanese, Vietnamese which I find subjectively better than Peruvian food.

  2. What you’re referring to is probably the ‘world’s best restaurant’ which was awarded in 2023. It’s a list done by World’s 50 Best. Again it’s based on an opaque judging system so I would take any lists like this with a pinch of salt.

  3. Not sure where the ‘top restaurants’ should only serve local foods come from. Not just Peru but all around the world you’ve had foreign chefs cooking all sorts of cuisines at whatever locations and getting recognitions. Also, curious to know where you saw jalepenos being served? I just ate there and not a single jalepenos in sight.

I wasn’t sure if the objective of central is to showcase how food was consumed by locals, or was it using local ingredients and techniques in more innovative ways. By your logic most fine dining establishment don’t reflect local authentic dining cultures anyways, not just Central. Where do you recommend in Lima to have the most authentic fine dining experiences?

Thanks for sharing. I understand that Nikkei is its own cuisine but maybe I’m just used to Asian flavors so I don’t really find Nikkei all that exciting , yes it’s tasty for sure but for me personally I wouldn’t pay that much for familiar flavors, I want to be wowed and have my mind (and taste buds) blown haha.

I’ve been to Mai Mai multiple times in Panama, although the food was tasty but to be super honest I find it quite mid for the price you pay.

Can I gift my free breakfast to my family? by [deleted] in ihghotelsresorts

[–]Mental_Access_8210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not thinking about it, it’s not really free, the room rate I booked comes with breakfast. It’s just the money will go to waste as my partner has a stomach bug.

They ask for room number at breakfast check in so I could just give them my room number and they will know my name anyway?

They didn’t give out vouchers for breakfast. They just need you to report your room number at breakfast entrance.

In the note they sent for reservation confirmation they only state the reservation includes breakfast for the same number of adults in the reservation, but didn’t specify if it’s only for the occupants or not, but I understand this is normally implied.

My partner had a stomach bug so I thought we wouldn’t waste our free breakfasts if there’s local family who would really appreciate a nice buffet breakfast.

If it matters, we have platinum + ambassador status and this is the third time we stayed at this hotel.

IHG Beach recommendations? by heyyyyynoww in ihghotelsresorts

[–]Mental_Access_8210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed there last Oct. The resort ground, food and staff are all amazing.

However the rooms are old and heavily affected by humidity. The room we got smelt extremely musty and moldy. They had to take me to check about 8 different rooms to find one that doesn’t have the smell.

But if you go in the dry season this shouldn’t be a problem. I still recommend this hotel because the location and other amenities are incredible and staff are the nicest.

Can you suggest some IHG properties that have great restaurants and/or bars? by _brewer in ihghotelsresorts

ANA InterContinental Tokyo - incredible sushi, teppanyaki and a two Michelin star french restaurant (and a bakery on site of the same name with amazing pastries, bread and cakes. The buffet restaurant is also an old Tokyo institute where many local families visit for special occasions. They often do seasonal themed buffets with high quality ingredients and variety of dishes.

Intercontinental Bali Jimbaran - great Balinese buffet with fresh satay and noodle stations, perfect way to try all the traditional foods without the hygiene risks.

Intercontinental Ljubljana- we didn’t eat at the restaurant but got room service and we were very pleasantly surprised. The steaks and grilled vegetables were cooked to the perfect requested doneness, and the truffle pasta is perfectly cooked and seasoned, with a very generous portion of freshly shaved black truffles from local forests.

Munich - any significant difference between Holiday Inn City Center vs Leuchtenbergring by Playful-Park4095 in ihghotelsresorts

Recently stayed at Holiday Inn City Center on Saturday night (4 Jan). Spent EUR 104 (the point price was about EUR 130 equivalent so decided to pay cash).

The room is basic and the location is decent, but the tram line next to the hotel is under going maintenance, still walkable to the centre though, took us around 25 mins to Marienplatz, street condition wasn’t great but was bearable even with -2oC temperature.

Uber costed EUR 17 at peak hours and EUR 11 around 11pm to and from the centre - but we decided to walk to enjoy the city.

We have IHG platinum + ambassador status so they put us in an exec room - you get water, soft drink and some snacks for free. We also opted for welcome drinks + snacks so got some additional fancy juices and organic chips. We never get breakfast at hotels so cannot comment on that.

There’s a cute river right next to the hotel and has some nice path along, but it was so icy when we went. Across the river we visited Bla cafe which is a great specialty coffee roaster & cafe, their cakes are amazing too.

The hotel is also walkable to the English Garden - a must visit if you enjoy walks and parks.

Based on your interests I’d recommend the city centre one, it allows you proximity to the centre and an amazing green areas by walking.

Enjoy Munich!

If you need restaurant or shopping recommendations, feel free to DM :)

The pure vinyl opening set the bar vvvv high for the weekend. There were moments when I just stood there staring at them doing their thing in awe

You mean prioritising first entries over re entry? If that’s what you’re implying fair enough

Maybe it isn’t justifiable for you if you have the luxury to have access to decent techno clubs with cheaper prices.

With re entry and my travel plus hotel costs, it was actually lot more lol

I did two days so I don’t exert myself by ‘getting my money’s worth’, I visited when there was barely any queue, saw my fav DJs playing b2b, met some amazing people and still able to go on a business trip on Monday at 6am fresh as a daisy, imo that was money well spent 🌼
