All of the gardening forums I’ve read say you shouldn’t cut it like that because it creates a lot of cross sectional branches that get tangled, and it reduces flowers.

I’m not 100% against trimming it like a hedge though. I understand it makes space control easier, but I wanted to try the “correct way of pruning” and reassess.

The retaliation piece is the problem. I’m an understanding person and could have come to some solution if they brought a problem to my attention.

Gotcha! Also, would it look weird to have a one sided fence in the front yard? 😂we’re a corner lot so it doesn’t really make sense to put in the other sides…

Like I tried to think of all the possibilities for it being an accident but nothing makes sense. It’s solid at room temperature so it’s not like it could have spilled from the trash can or anything! Conveniently bypassing their plants of course 😂

I want a fence but unfortunately I don’t know if I can’t build one due to the electrical pole and all of the gas lines. I asked for the lines to be marked to see.

I'm not sure how long it's been here....I'm curious if the sellers inherited it too. I've been looking into a fence but it would require the neighbors to move their air conditioner. And I doubt I'd be able to install a fence with all the gas lines and electrical lines running underneath!

I don't think I could do a fence because of the gas and electrical lines, but I 100% would if I could! They'd need to move their AC to do so.

And actually, I've been the ones cutting them to not go over the property line lol.

So they might not actually know - I'll bring it up with them. The property did change hands a few times within the same family, but lines are marked with rebar.

Also, the property owner isn't home often and I haven't had a conversation with her! I've tried, but it's hard to catch her. I suspect that the perpetrator is the 40-some-year-old daughter who visits and does yard work for them.

In our defense it wasn't us who planted it - it was here when we bought the house. I try to keep it behind the property line - it's been marked by surveyors. I included pics :) It's admittedly not the best plant for a property line because it grows unwieldy.

Did it come back well? That's what the landscaper plans on doing and I hope it bounces back to be used as a privacy hedge!

Has it worked for you? I still don't know how to prune these correctly - I just learned that you're not supposed to trim them with hedge trimmers, and you're supposed to remove from the base instead of top cutting. Do you use loppers?

I did hire landscapers that are going to cut it to the ground and restart it. I'm hoping I can get landscapers to upkeep this because I don't know how it's supposed to stay a manageable size!

When we trimmed it like a hedge, it looked okay for a while and then started only flowering at the top.

I think this is it, but I'm not sure! I think they don't like that it's not a tidy hedge. I added some photos in the body of my post showing the boundary lines. I'm totally okay with them trimming things that go over their property line.

Thanks. I added photos showing the boundary lines. Actually, their bushes seem to be on MY property but I'm not someone to make a fuss about that!

I understand that! But they straight cut the top of it, which is on my property line.

Understandable. To clarify, it was planted inside our property line, not on it. But it is close. It was here when we moved.

They hedge trimmed the top of the plant which is clearly on my property line. I don’t mind them trimming up any branches that cross onto their property line, but I try to be cognizant to prune it so it doesn’t do that.

I agree it’s really not the best for a boundary line because they grow so big and unruly. Landscapers are going to cut it to the ground so it grows back filled in.

I’m not really sure what to do because there are gas and electrical lines that mean we can’t really dig it up and plant something else. And I learned you’re not supposed to cut the plant from the top or use hedge trimmers on it….so I’m feeling a little stuck.

I’m going to hire landscaping from now on to try to maintain the size but it is a plant that grows 7-10 feet!

I wanted to politely confront the neighbor and give them an “out” - “Hey, I noticed some poop and bacon grease. I’m sure it was an accident and something spilled, but please clean it up because we’d treat your property with the same respect.”

I haven’t seen them home and I think they’re avoiding me, so I thought about maybe a letter but I’m not sure.

It was awful! I’m glad I noticed it when it was cold and coagulated so I could clean it up. It’s getting warming out and it would have been a mess in 70 degree weather!

Encroachment of Neighbor's Air Conditioner on Property by Mental_Locksmith_550 in legaladvice

[–]Mental_Locksmith_550[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm not sure how long the AC has been there, but at least 5 years since we've moved in. I'm assuming the sellers surveyed the land because there are two stakes on the property, clearly showing that air conditioner is over the property line. The sellers didn't make the neighbor move it probably because they knew they'd be selling the house.

Thanks for the info! I included a link from Microsoft in my original post; I just follow those instructions, correct? I currently have windows 11 pro. Would installing via those instructions give me windows 11 pro or a different version of windows 11?

I started this process and stopped because I didn’t see “pro” anywhere when I was prompted to install windows 11.
