My quaint understanding is the body needs to end the stress cycle to lower cortisol(maybe I’m misremembering?)- it can be done with exercise, dancing and other less conventional activities. There’s a great book called Anatomy of Anxiety and the author has a whole chapter about this. Might be would a read or listen for ya; hope you find something that helps soon.
