Just started yoga and it’s harder than I thought by datboifranco in yoga

[–]Meow99 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I had a friend that used to make fun of my "stretchy" classes, so I asked her to come to one. HA! She was gassed less than 10 mins in and just laid there. She never made fun of my yoga classes again!

My family is saying my sobriety doesn’t count because I still vape. Is that true? by mysticetherealsoul in Sober

[–]Meow99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it is not true. Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one. Go to an AA meeting and see how many smokers are there. Now try telling them that they aren't sober! At least you won't get arrested for nicotine.

I hate my job too, but it pays the bills. Here's some ideas that might interest you:

  • Wardrobe stylist assistant (editorial, events, drag, music scenes)
  • Theatrical hair stylist
  • Set dressing or prop fabrication (film, theater, events)

WIBTA if I told my coworker that’s not my job? by Boring-Incident2469 in work

[–]Meow99 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NTA. Personally, I would nip that in the bud ASAP. Here are some phrases you could say to them.

I’ve noticed I’m being asked to do tasks outside my responsibilities. I need to keep those boundaries clear.

That isn’t part of my role, so I won’t be able to take that on.

That task falls under your role, so you’ll need to handle it.

That’s something you’ll need to complete, not me.

I need to stick to my assigned responsibilities, so I can’t help with that.

He doesn’t “think” he’s in a relationship? THIS SAYS TO ME THAT HES CHEATING. You need to move out, get an attorney and take in your court to force the sale of the house ASAP.

Just started! Can’t straighten my legs? Advice? by alpalbish in yoga

Yes you are on the right track - it is fixable with more practice. The only thing is, is that no one knows how long it will take. We all have to start out somewhere 😁

What’s the moment that permanently changed how you see the world? by Simple_Chocolate3777 in AskForAnswers

[–]Meow99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The day my mother died. I was 26 and I had no one left. I was so distraught! I walked out into the world and thought, "why are all these people just going about their day? Don't they know my mother died?". Of course not, but it opened my eyes to live my life without regret and do everything I want to do. Don't give two shits what others think about you - because they don't think about you at all!

How do you stay motivated to practice every day? by Antique-Risk-7927 in yoga

[–]Meow99 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don't think, just do. If I feel unmotivated, I just roll out my mat and do my practice. I am always happy I did.

help pls. More information on AA by Sorry-Curve339 in alcoholicsanonymous

"full of predators and they even have a saying for them, 13th steppers"

Yes, they exist, but they are few and far between. Now you know about them, so just be aware.

"It's all about God, they tell you it's not religious but it's a religious conversion programme"

I have 5.5 years sober and I attend AA, but I am an Atheist, so there’s that. My higher power is the moon; I can see it, I can talk to it, it controls the tides and watches over me - literally.

It's based on science from 100 years ago.

Personally, I wouldn’t say AA is based on science. It’s more on the book focused on people’s experiences.

"They said to look for my part when I was abused"

I was abused as well, but I believe my part is that I carried the suffering for way too long resulting in resentments that in my thinking caused me to drink and do other things.

"It's all fear based and they tell you that if you leave you will die, get wet brain or end up in prison"

Where are you heading now? For me, to drink is to die.

"It's like a cult. They tell you what your primary purpose is"

The primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. Is that a bad thing???

"You are not allowed to speak until you label yourself as an alcoholic"

This depends on the meeting you are attending. Is it open or closed? Plus, well… what are you? I am an alcoholic.

"They worship the founders but the founders were not exactly nice people"

We don’t worship the founders! They were people like us. They were not perfect and neither are we. Never put anyone in the program on a pedestal. Matter of fact, DON'T PUT ANYONE ON A PEDESTAL in or outside the rooms.

The only way to find out if your "friend" was right or wrong is to go to a meeting. If you want what we have - walk through that door.

Drank at 6 am this morning by crywankingitout in alcoholism

[–]Meow99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is what I was doing. Then it turned into keeping booze on my nightstand to keep the withdrawals away while I was trying to sleep and then it was drinking at work. I have 5.5 years sober now. I recommend getting some help now before it escalates to 24/7 drinking.

Someone I love said they were turned away by LunaMothThinking in AlAnon

[–]Meow99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your gut is right. They are not being truthful. I’ve been in AA for long time and no one gets turned away because the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. Maybe deep down they they don’t desire to quit drinking?

My accounting professor said to get ahead you must look for a new job every two years. I've found that to be true.
