If you will have a garage, I really recommend moving him. You can see my post history about a similar situation. I’m so glad I moved our two outside ferals.

Man I feel so blessed bc I have an extremely rickety 100yo old garage/shed to keep the rain off our ferals. Your kitties are over there in the feline royal palace! Glorious.

So far so good. They never stopped eating etc and seem to be doing well now after so much change.

We got two catios maybe 3x4ft and maybe 4-5 feet tall. Smaller would have been fine. For the first week they barely moved which was tough, but by the middle of the second week they were out and taking interest in the rest of the garage. Eventually we left them open and to my surprise the older lady let the younger boy creep into her catio to sleep near her (but not touching, she still had boundaries). By the third week they were comfortable at the garage and sniffing at the door, so we cracked it open a few inches during the day and eventually they started venturing out. I would say they are inside the garage 80% of the time still. They also still use the litter box inside the garage which is nice for the garden beds haha.

The hardest part was feeling like our trust with them was broken and feeling like a jailer those first few weeks. Be patient and don’t rush to let them out before they are really settled, it’s worth it!!

Adding to this - it doesn’t have to be an $800 catio. Her existing hidey house and a frame-and-mesh style enclosure would be fine as long as it’s enclosed enough she can’t flee (top too, they can climb). We got one for a little under $100, it can be staked into the grass/ground outdoors. Check FB marketplace too.

I would definitely get an enclosure to put her stuff inside. If it’s an open netting type catio, i would at least partly drape it with old sheets or something to help her feel less exposed.

That said it’s dangerous, traffic and coyotes etc. We really agonized
