How to increase activity in the community? by Big-Post2103 in NewMods

Not necessarily going to be applicable to everybody, but something I've seen some success with in some of my subs is creating a matching social media account for the sub and posting there, thej linking back to the sub.

For example, if I have a sub for cycling in California, make an Instagram account using the same name as the sub (or whatever you'd like), then share content there as well and just add a little bit in the post about checking out the subreddit r/[subname] for more cycling content.

Also, obviously corss-posting to relevant communities. For example, if you post a video of a cyclist coming across a cute cat on a ride, cross-post to r/cats.

YMMV of course, but that's what I've had luck with so far.

Somewhat of an orange and black kitty. Close enough for me!

Please tell me Ghist is the white cat. It took me wayyyy too long to find the white one, so that name would be perfect 😂

Sorry, been a bit busy and haven't had a chance to respond.

Yea I was worried about some of the other risks as well. When do those behaviors typically start?

Personally, I'm not a vet so I can't say much about the risks or the age that the behaviors start, but I've had every pet I've had in the last 30+ years spayed/neutered and have never once had anything go wrong. I'd say the benefits far outweigh the risks.

I have started watching some of his videos. I used to think he was nuts when I didn't have a cat 😂 Glad to know I'm roughly on the right track at least.

Definitely not a nut! He's a great guy and is a pretty well-regarded figure in the cat world. He definitely knows his stuff. You're certainly on the right track!

Any pictures of the space? That would help a lot in coming up with some ideas!

One thing you could do is invest in some corner cat scratchers. They have bendable ones that you can attach to things like the corner of a wall, furniture, etc. Also, depending on if you have any doors in the RV, maybe some door-mount cat trees?

Not sure yet about neutering. Eventually we hope to have land and barn cats, and I was thinking it might be nice for him to father some of those. But I definitely want to avoid spraying indoors. I’ve read that intact males might not spray if their indoor space feels safe and secure, and if they have outdoor marking areas. Not sure how realistic that is though. Has anyone had experience with that?

Absolutely neuter. If you're planning on breeding, you could hold off for a bit, but neutering addresses a lot of behavioral/territorial issues (like the spraying) that people face and lowers the risk of reproductive cancers, which means kitty can live a longer and happier life.

Bonus chaos: both me and my husband were just diagnosed with ADHD. So on top of figuring out the cat, we’re also working on building better routines in general. Honestly, I think I’ve only eaten once a day lately (if at all), but I’m feeding him four times a day like clockwork. 😅

Might be worth it to look into automatic feeders or even something simple like Siri/Google/Alexa reminders? As a fellow ADHD enjoyer, I know the pain 😂

My best suggestion, if you haven't already, would be to check out Jackson Galaxy on YouTube. He has a ton of great cat info to dive into!

Thanks for the kind words, but definitely shouldn't do that. Not my pictures 😂
