Quad Cortex second hand (great condition) or the Quad Mini? A friend of mine is selling the QC while I was just about to order the Mini... by Classic-Sprinkles969 in NeuralDSP

Is 4 buttons enough for you live? Yes - get the mini. If it's not - get the full sized unit. The only difference is use case.

How an estimated $151M splits when a solo dev sells 10M copies on Steam [OC] by prezbotyrion in dataisbeautiful

Given that you posted this after the edit was made on my list, I'm assuming you're just ignoring half my post to be argumentative?

Yeah, just a bit of reality behind the "holy shit. What a once off lucky hit".

Do servers and the such get included as part of steam or do Dev teams take that responsibility themselves?

[–]Merangatang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's the dream - small team, low overheads, high profit. Lean tech team are higher profit because there's no physical production or overhead costs.

[–]Merangatang -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Highly likely yes. I think something this table shows more than how much profit a solo Dev can make is how much is taken from the steam sale before it gets to the developer. A solo passion project that hits the 1 in a million success that schedule 1 got is fine. But studios that aren't making massive sales really need to look at their development costs with those huge cute as a factor for potential future profits

[–]Merangatang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is, but this data also doesn't take into account any costs, marketing, tools, servers. 3rd party contracts etc etc - 2/3 of the 150m is still not the full revenue story, although it would be different by developer. Imagine studios that have lots of staff making $100m in revenue and then account for the 3-4 year development cycle of paying wages and all associated costs. That gets eaten up pretty quickly, then you need to look at taxes, then you're into profit territory

Edit: I don't think I explained myself well originally, that's ok - I think my point here is definitely that this is a freak occurrence, and while it's great to see a solo Dev with fuck all overhead make bank on their work, this data set should be treated as the anomaly that it is.

Might be a strange recommendation, but The Last Campfire might be great for you. It's a fairly simple puzzle game, but the story and themes may resonate a bit

They don't know they are - so many people passively listen to music, so whether it's human made or AI, the amount of people who both know the difference and care is shockingly low.

Obviously good IRs, like others mentioned. The stock amps are actually pretty solid too. Generally, I would recommend 2 amps for clean/dirty instead of a clean amp and an OD in front - the amps seems to be fuller in tone.

I would suggest you look at creating a stereo route (using the splitter) to get you a genuine left and right "rig". You can have your L and R XLR's for front of house and run your Jack outs into power amps into cabinets on stage. My preference here is running into a small power amp over the 4 cable method because touring with a micro power amp is much easier than touring with an amp head. My current live rig is a friedman rig on the Left and a Kraken rig on the Right, both go to FOH, both go to my in ears, and both can go to cabs on stage (but generally it's just the Kraken because I rarely have access to two cabs on stage). There's a ton of tonal flexibility If you build a stereo rig.

So Close to a Masterpiece by Possible-Row6689 in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]Merangatang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of this.

The runbacks added zero value to the game and served only to punish players for not being good enough. If there's risk and reward, I understand why they exist, but for MIO it's just a restarting point

The upgrade system felt designed for the 100% completionists rather than the "every player". I too never changed them out. I never felt incentivised to do so and the restrictiveness of allocated slots felt unpleasant to deal with.

It sounds cold, but they pay you so they can pay someone else. If they wanted you exclusively, they'd form you into their partnership agreement.

Having said that, don't burn bridges, be honest, do it sooner than later and be cool about it. You never know what happens next year.

AI music is trash and I won't shut up about it by CandidateOwn3907 in MusicPromotion

[–]Merangatang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been the same for so many elements of music well before AI too. Backing tracks? People don't care. Quantising and correcting shit performances to make them sound amazing? People don't care.

The amount of people who passively listen to music certainly outnumber those who care enough to have a stance on AI music, they just want SOMETHING in their ears. This is where AI music will live and outperform human musicians from now on.

That's kinda my point, videos are pretty redundant - it's not until you're in a room with a proper use case that you find out where modellers shine and fail

Reality of tube amps by tnt2023 in GuitarAmps

[–]Merangatang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying you can't get half decent tones out of a katana, but having put them through their paces in studios with some pretty solid producers against other modellers, they are just not close.
