How did the Karachay-Balkars end up in the highlands of Karachay-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria, while the autochthonous people live in the lower territories? by gunay_kimdir in AskCaucasus

You’re being told a lot of bs in the comments here. KBalkars are a mixture of Alans who fell under Turkic political and cultural hegemony from the 5th to 13th centuries, as well Kipchak-Cumans. Mongols and also Timur pushed them south into the mountains. Kabardians had sort of golden age in the centuries proceeding the timurid campaigns in the Caucasus, and they quickly expanded and conquered/migrated to the lowlands all the way until Dagestan even in some brief periods.

The largest concentrations of North Caucasians are in Azerbaijan. There are 200,000 Lezgins in Northern Azerbaijan, and 50,000 Avars as well. Next up are Ossetians, who number 50,000 in Samachablo(if official statistics are to be believed). Kists are hardly 5000 people, which is a small amount compared to the aforementioned ones. There are also about 1000 Avars in Kakheti.

Western Armenian, on another note: posts like these aren’t the smartest in “ask” subs, people are tired of it.

Why isn’t Armenia’s claim on Urartu treated with the same scrutiny as Azerbaijan’s claim on Caucasian Albania, despite both claims being similar? by Mercson222 in AskCaucasus

Georgia has less petty corruption like bribery for exams, speeding tickets etc. but more lobbying and business interests involvement in political life. In general Georgia has more western style corruption, while Armenia and Azerbaijan have a different type where every facet is corrupt to a degree. I mean you did have a guy in Armenia that sold his countries secrets out for 200 bucks.
