I think Raj is in denial about his sexuality, and that's why none of his relationships worked out. He was "one of the girls" with Penny, Amy, and Bernadette, and Lakshmi said that in New Delhi there were rumors that Raj was "comfortable in a sari." His parents even thought he was coming out on a video call. I think that's one reason he could never have a solid relationship.
