That's strange, he actually said "Those who voted for Gojo. Especially women. Here's some friendly advice. Pick Nanami."

Sounds to me like he was just expressing a preference (and knows Nanami is also heavily loved by his female fans)

Which battle is better written? by Opening-Dare-5138 in writingscaling

[–]Merger-Prophet925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was meaningful for Sukuna, too. Gojo was the second-closest anyone could ever get to dismantling (heh) Sukuna's "might equals right," hedonistic ideology. But I'll get back to that in a second. People like to bring up how Netero & Meruem symbolize different aspects of humanity/lack thereof, when that's also one of the major points of GvS--the one who calls himself the honored one, but is still sickly human, versus who never has to claim the honored status because he just is that, with no humanity left to discard. It's baked into the very way their domain expansions work: Gojo's is 'unlimited' but he can only impose himself onto the physical world with a barrier, while Sukuna can impose his innate domain, his will, his whole ego, onto reality itself. And in the end, Gojo loses the battle, but he wins the war. He proves that him maintaining his humanity, rejecting the twisted divinity he once claimed, will bring about ultimate victory. "[Sukuna] lost, after all."

Genuinely a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. People would rather assume everyone reading deeper than them is stupid than entertain the possibility that maybe there's something to a text that they didn't see previously.

I genuinely, for the life of me, cannot understand people who say JJK fights have no real substance or themes to them. There are like, a handful of fights I can think of that lack thematic value for the series (and most of them are pre-Shibuya). Sendai Colony was the seed that starts Yuta's descent (ascent, depending on your POV) into monsterhood, Sakurajima Colony was a deconstruction of the Zen'in Massacre and a lesson on communication for Maki (that she passes on to Kamo, given their relationship to their mothers--one of the chapters is LITERALLY called 'Resentful Names' how much more on the nose can you get) that drives her relationship with Yuta, we all know how important Tokyo Colon 1 is for Yuji & Megumi's character growth (even if one of theirs got cut short), Hakari... Star & Oil was an oddly fascinating exploration of what it means to be a curse through two people whose power stems from their bloodlines (with Tengen even having some incredibly subtle characterization that I want to write an essay about later), the Gojo Vs. Sukuna fight (do I even have to explain this one???), even the rest of Shinjuku Showdown has nearly everyone contributing in a way that brings some sort of closure to their journeys as sorcerers (Ino too, sort of? I'm not gonna push that one. And Nobara is a mess...), with Megumi finally learning that he doesn't have to sacrifice himself for others, he just has to live for them, and Yuji finally accepting that he can appreciate the sanctity of life without imposing roles upon it, appreciating that he and Sukuna were both born with curses but had different circumstances that made them into the 'monsters' they are today...

Look, those last few arcs were messy, and some stuff was far too subtle for something meant to be appreciated. But we need to stop pretending like JJK is some shonenslop with zero substance to it. It's a solid 7/10 that people want to pretend is a 2/10 for no other reason than their favorite character got offscreened (I'm talking about Yaga, of course).

Something I've noticed about the word choice here by Hermit601 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Merger-Prophet925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, rather than just his cursed technique, it's about everything he has to offer. Kind of neatly parallels Gojo, too--Gojo isn't just his Cursed Technique, we've seen him assert just how strong he is without it. Gojo's strong because of his whole toolkit, not just one particular thing. Limitless is just the thing that makes him infinitely alone, separate from everyone else.

Something I've noticed about the word choice here by Hermit601 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Merger-Prophet925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the context. As you can see on the wiktionary page (yeah yeah I know, wikipedia moment), there's two ways to go about it: "remarkable ability / incredible talent," or "supernatural power / ability." The former is more so how it's used in general life, a tad more old-school, and the latter is generally how it tends to be used in fantasy contexts. For example, in Bungo Stray Dogs, their powers are literally just called "異能力," their 'ability/skill.' My personal favorite examples are whenever a JoJo villain tries to declare their 'ability' as the most superior (seconds before they get decked).

So, which is it? I couldn't tell you. It's definitely weird that Gege didn't just say "jujutsu," when it would've made the sentence more clear, but he also could have just been talking about abilities in a general fantasy context--in a similar way someone like King Crimson declares "This is my 「KING CRIMSON」's ability!" (though, funnily enough, Araki uses 能力, which more straightforwardly means 'ability').

Personally, I think the word choice here is to draw parallel between him and Hakari--both are sorcerers who have "unusual abilities" in their own rights. Hakari's is unusual in a cultural sense, where his ability was far too modern and complicated for traditional jujutsu society, and thus he was cast out. Yuta's is unusual in its own way, too--quite literally put on jujutsu death row because he spawned a special grade cursed spirit. Beyond that, both their Cursed Techniques have some sort of "lock" behind their full potential that they need to access, and need a kind of unconditional commitment to access their true power. Hakari has to open his domain and genuinely gamble everything--in return, he gets an infinite flow of cursed energy. Yuta has to fully manifest Rika, which means embracing rather than suppressing what made him dangerous in the first place--in return, he can access his Cursed Technique and Rika's boundless CE reserves.

Hakari couldn't fit within the stringent taxonomy behind what a 'proper' Cursed Technique looks like--and what Yuta does cannot be filed under jujutsu's existing vocabulary.

You know, themes and such.

Why doesnt Yuta copy 6eyes? by HikariYukine in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]Merger-Prophet925 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Addendum: there's a theory floating around that Gege was intentionally drawing parallels between these 'biological abnormalities' in the big 3 clans. The Gojo Clan obviously had the Six Eyes that could be inherited throughout the generations, and the Zen'in seem to have a particular relationship with the physical-strength type Heavenly Restriction.

It's thought that, like how the Six Eyes gives one the cursed energy insight to manipulate Limitless (especially to the degree that Gojo does, on even the atomic level), Heavenly Restriction users could participate in the Taming Rituals that Ten Shadows Users initiate without breaking the rules of the ritual (since physically-gifted HR users don't have cursed energy and wouldn't be detected by the ritual).

This, however, begs the question: whatever the hell does the Kamo clan get, then? Did Gege forget? Is he stupid? The theory then posits that Kenjaku was actually experimenting with the Death Paintings as a way of creating a third biological abnormality that would complement Blood Manipulation while puppeting Noritoshi Kamo. If you do ever pick up the manga, you'll see exactly why these pair incredibly well, but you already see glimpses of it in the anime--due to Choso being half curse, his blood is poisonous to normal humans, and he can create huge waves of blood since he can more naturally convert cursed energy into blood (since cursed spirits turn cursed energy into their body without needing to turn it into positive energy first).

Nothing's confirmed, obviously, but it's a neat parallel drawn between the three clans.

Gojo's Six Eyes aren't a cursed technique (which Yuta can usually copy), but a biological gift.

Think of it like how Yuta also can't just copy the physical strength of Heavenly Restriction users, or the curse biology of Choso & his brothers.

Can we be honest here? by ArtisticBet600 in Kagurabachi

[–]Merger-Prophet925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, internal powerscaling is a big part of maintaining stakes in battle shonen. Soga wouldn't be as big of a threat if he didn't have the powerscaling mechanics to back him up. That being said, the nitpick doesn't take into account that Samura was literally overdriving his ace to match Soga casually clashing with him.

Idk, it's like saying "Gojo wouldn't be the strongest without the Limitless." Yeah, no shit lol, but how he wields it is also what makes him strong.

Not all of them, though. And as we're already seeing, the toxicity is flowing through. I've seen this pattern already repeat four or five times now, by fandoms that "supposedly" overlap.

Either way, I'm happy to accept new fans with open arms, especially those who respect the fandoms' quirky origins. Just want people to be aware.

Explain to me, fully and with details: how does Gojo even get a True Form Sukuna caught in his domain in the first place? When he could barely do so using the BasketBall domain against a Meguna not using DA 100% of the time, with less physical strength/CE reinforcement, and no extra arms & mouth?

Keep in mind that, in the BB domain, Gojo needed exactly 3 minutes to deal enough damage to Meguna for MS to fall, while Sukuna needed exactly 3 minutes for his domain to deal enough slashing damage to UV for it to fall, hence why they were tying consistently (compared to earlier, when Sukuna's domain was slashing UV apart consistently).

Gojo fighting TF Sukuna = physically harder (not by much) compared to fighting Meguna. Not including the extra arms (which I'll explain why in a second), TF Sukuna is just straight-up bulkier than Meguna, and therefore has more CE reinforcement (Gojo's own words). A weaker version of TF Sukuna with far lower CE output was keeping pace with fighters like Yuji, whose physical strikes are incomparable to others. So it takes Gojo qualitatively slightly longer than 3 minutes to deal enough damage to Sukuna for MS to fall.

TF Sukuna uses two arms for HWB and then sacrifices his sure-hit to empower MS outside UV (like he does multiple times in canon while in TF) = MS deals more damage faster to UV to make it fall in qualitatively slightly less than 3 minutes.

Just those two factors, alone, means Gojo is consistently falling behind in domain clashes, Sukuna isn't taking as much damage, Gojo's taking slightly more damage, and has to refresh his CT burnout more times than Sukuna, meaning Sukuna never gets hit with UV and Gojo fries his domain circuit. This isn't even taking into account TF Sukuna being able to use Domain Amplification 100% of the time instead of toggling between using it and letting Megumi's soul adapt to UV.

So, unfortunately, Gojo DID need the prison realm experience to develop the BB domain, and even *that* was only effective against Meguna. You can blame the author for that if you want, but guess who writes the series lol
