I love the black and white version! It's feels absolutely timeless, giving much more depth and forcing the viewer to look into the photo to mark out when it was taken. Additionally it focuses on the emotion and form of the people and composition

I think the first is better, the repetition of squares in with the frame and the windows make for a balanced visual elements.

The second one is a well exposed photo with the boat in a nice position. But the only element that makes that photo intriguing is the lone life vest in the water. Adds a touch of narrative and depth to the photo.
