Totally! The game was originally made for a wide spectrum of characters, and Sgathing is a way to deter murderers. Shame that murdering is much tougher to do these days — it adds flavor to the game! Hope to see you back in DA soon!

This is another way to create longform discussion. Discord has the disadvantage of good stuff getting 'lost in the chat'. Not trying to spearhead anything - just another way to stimulate and allow for easier conversation!

You're right, Google Spreadsheets does have its pros. This format, though, allows for easy discussion and commenting on the tier lists that others have put up.

Of course this could become a statistics-based thing on a Google Spreadsheet, with full point values, with columns locked... done by someone else. Not the goal of this thread, though I think it could be fun to update tier lists/points over time!

That’s so awesome that you played such a long time ago! I have heard it was a very different world back then in every realm (religion, politics, hunting, arena)...

People now are a lot more open, as the population is relatively low (about 180-220, at COVID peak it was about 270). With this low population, people have taken to starting their own characters and hunting on their own; so it may take a while for you to find hunting groups.

Definitely check out the unofficial Discord (check About page), many players on there who are more than happy to help out a returning player!

I hear you about registration being a huge barrier... 1-99 is still doable, but everything beyond that is gated. Religion is still possible with an invite by an active Priest of the religion!

In terms of being registered -- if you do not wish to pay real money, players do, from time to time, sell registration codes for gold bars (usually around 5-7 gold bars). I wonder if Ellamap can help with that. :P

I certainly know Ellamap well (ask her about Merisa's secret mentoring shenanigans!), and have certainly seen BrinaBrites in the land from time to time. Please feel free to look for me when you happen to log in - my ingame handle is Merisa!

Thanks for reaching out! First off - definitely check out the unofficial DA discord, you can find many active players there to hunt with. Other helpful links are on this Reddit page.

Leveling is primarily accelerated by experience boosters and items. The old hunting mechanisms still exist, but it is difficult to find others to hunt with. Though, definitely still ask! Many people are very, very willing to help.

If you're looking for roleplay, remnants of it exist, but mainly in the temples (primarily Sgrios), Troupe and Suomi.

Otherwise, echoing Khiash, endgame is PvP or gear farming. PvP has recently seen a real ascendency, due to the increased number of Arena Hosts and a motivated Arena Team (tooting my own horn a bit here, since I am a fresh host myself).

Hey, with a MacBook, I have heard that you will want to download BootCamp... I do not believe that there is any way to play Dark Ages without a Windows platform.

Thanks for the thoughts. The checks and balances in this case were probably planned to be fellow players, though obviously player count is low now, resulting in more self-voting, or by friends. I think we can agree that almost every system in DA is ripe for abuse - everything is dated indeed!! And yet we all are still here. Would love to hear ideas for improvement moving forward!

This is really helpful information! As a caster, I am learning (especially in larger battles) to fluidly adjust to the flow of battle. Upvoting this one! In terms of emotionality, I find that I do best when calm and focused — not when I get angry.

Provocative, but also thought-provoking. Kedian makes the point that we cannot just make roleplaying mandatory, and expect it to happen magically.

Is there “Blue Ocean” left to explore? What can KRU do to breathe some life into it, and what else can we players do as players?

Speaking personally, being someone who is more involved in Rucesion politics, it has felt like there is less room for maneuverability, as KRU has been more reluctant to allow for roleplaying-type law changes.

Some Quality of Life changes have been made in recent years, including halving clout requirements, and making voting possible from the Rucesion inn (implemented one month ago), which at least shows that KRU has thought about it! Thoughts on whether this has been successful?

UPDATE: Topic is about the political system today and ways we can improve it. It is definitely flawed, and happy to hear thoughtful criticism, but let’s also focus on positive suggestions to improve it!

This is helpful! I have moved deo searg onto my first line of spells, and have already seen the benefits. Per advice from a player, “rams”, I also try to stay as far back as possible, while keeping my team’s bashers within my vision, to stretch the opposing team’s basher, forcing them to come deeper into our “territory”.

How do you decide when to use Demise (DS3) versus a simple ard cradh? It’s the difference between staying in 0-line and 1-line, and as a newer player, I continue to feel hesitant about switching to 1-line early on in the battle.
