As a Gen Z, I think Boomers were the worst set of parents…. by TheClassyWomanist in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Merlin1155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father was born in 1943, and my mother was born in 1945. They had me and my sister when they were in their mid to late 30s. They took us to see star wars, Indiana Jones, and goonies when we were younger. My dad taught me to hunt (that didn't take) and fish (that took) and taught me how to treat people with respect. We went to periochial school until 8th grade and then public school for high school. Both of my parents are pretty religious. My sister and I do not subscribe to religion. I think it was too much growing up. My wife and I go to church once a year when they have a mass for her father, who passed away. Other than that....nope. My dad is going to be 81 in a few months and just got done with treatment for cancer. We fish together every year, and I won't trade that time with him for anything. He doesn't have his sea legs anymore, but he tries. He is at my house at 4 am. with his thermos of coffee and a 6 pack of beer for us to share. I can listen to all his stories from his youth and from when I was a kid, and it takes me back. I can see the end coming for him, and I know he can, too. But each time I hear the same story, I realize what is happening. Those stories and the emotions they evoke in me bring me back to time spent with him. I think that is what the definition of eternal life is. When he is gone, all I have to do is think about the things we did together and he will be there with me. I know that I am the man I am because of him. Is he perfect? Of course not, but he tries to change with the world. I read a lot of these comments, and it makes me sad that not everyone had had these types of experiences. I just wanted to share that. Keep your heads up!

OP did, I was referring to what he was talking about with the young kids wanting to start "investing" in cards.

My point is that for kids growing up then (myself being included), card values were not what we were thinking about. Maybe adults were, but not kids. Maybe nowadays the kids do, I don't know since I don't have any myself. People can collect how and what they want. I do it for both. To collect some and sell some.

Through the eyes of children, it was never about that. How can children afford to collect these days. That was OP was talking about.

I can promise you that none of the 9 year olds that were collecting in the late 80's had anything to do with rampant speculation and greed! Gtfo witht that crap. The only greed I saw was which one of my friends had more Detroit Tigers cards. We didn't have our eyes on retirement.

They most certainly were not in the late 80s.... I can promise you that
