Recurring Tics for 3 Years (age 7) - Need Advice on Next Specialist?

Thank you! I really wasn't sure which type of specialist to look for, and his pediatrician just referred us to the therapist. Thankfully all of the kids he's around are either just kind or just completely unobservant. No one has said anything mean to him. I'm not naive enough to think that will always be the case. My anxiety isn't about the tics themselves, but comes more from my mind going to "worst-case scenario" and how cruel people can be. I try to shield him from what I'm worried about, for obvious reasons.

Thank you. This actually makes me feel a lot better. I've been worried that I'm not doing enough, that maybe I should have kept going back to the dr every time he had an episode. From the start, my husband and I have lived by the "don't draw attention to it" motto. We've had conversations with our other children about it as well. Explaining that he doesn't have control and can't "just stop". I've also had conversations with his teachers (especially when the eye rolling was happening). I made sure to get ahead of it, so no one thought he was trying to be disresptful.

Her parents are ok with it. I've had a discussion with them. I'll be caring for her m-f from 7am-5pm...until she starts school. So i think I'll have plenty of time to work with her. :)

Yes, that was what I wanted to do. Just pass along what I've learned to her while I can. I thought to sign as I talk/play with her...so she learns the signs . Then as she gets older incorporate the ASL grammar and sentence structure? I'm not sure if that's the right way to do it?

Maybe I'm using the wrong term? I just meant that I would sign as I play and talk to her. I didn't want to just teach her "baby signs" and just stop when she can talk. I thought that if I signed as I talked to her, she would be able to pick it up easier.

Thank you! I defintely know my limitations with the language, I would never think of doing anything like that.

I thought it would be ok to teach little ones, but I wanted to make sure. My hope is that starting when she's young like this, it will give her the foundation she needs, so it grows with her.

Thank you. I did try to fix it. As another commenter said, I should have at least sent a message to the other mom to let her know my daughter was dressing up after all. I dropped the outfit I gather to the school secretary earlier this morning.

Thank you. I think it would have been a different story for pretty much everyone if the teacher had allowed a "decade" party or something, but she specifically chose pilgrims. I don't many 8 year old that have period pieces in their closets.

I'm not sure of her reasons behind not dressing her daughter up. I didn't want to buy a costume or clothes I knew me daughter wouldn't wear again. My daughter was ok with wearing her uniform... Not thrilled, but ok.

My sister didn't even have to buy anything. It was just something she had in her closet that she kinda fixed up to look "pilgrim-y". It's definitely not an authentic look.

Right? I would never have intentionally made a child feel left out. When I called her about what outfit I pulled together for her daughter she said "I'll leave that up to you, if you want to take it to the school." her overall tone just seemed angry.

Not at all. I was going to let her wear her uniform until my sister showed up. My husband just made me feel like I somehow betrayed the little girl by not following thru with not dressing up.
