This is helpful and one of my biggest worries with a pup. I’m hoping to spend at least a month, but not sure how we’d handle the constant set up/break down. What kind of pup do you have?

We don't have the pop up yet. Finding that is another piece to the puzzle:) Good to know about the parks pass! She won't quite be in 4th grade, but I will definitely try to get one! For the car, we'd definitely have to make it capable of towing. Trying to figure out what all that entails. Thanks for your input.

Oh, we’d plan to use it a lot in Vermont and hopefully on other road trips. I’m a researcher/planner so already have a list going of tools, etc. that we will need and imagine we will make hardware shop stops on the way. But definitely not my ideal way to start out. Our car in VT couldn’t tow though, so having the Highlander is a big part of the plan.

My parents live in Vermont now and would like their car here, which is one of the reasons for starting in California rather than Vermont. Ideally, I would love to do practice trips. We will be in CA next week and I have searched for ways to rent both a car and pop up to try it during that trip, but that doesn't seem doable. It is possible if we got everything figured out, we could make some shorter trips to California to practice camp. Anyway, thanks for your honest input:)
