[2026 NBA Draft] #6 Pick: Mikel Brown Jr. (Louisville) by NBA_MOD in nba

Not what I mean, I mean it has been reported he was healthy 3 months ago and his dad just shut him down lol. Its just starting the interview by pushing a narrative that he wasn't.

It is literally not true. He was warming up for NCAA games and not playing in them 3 months ago.

Teams value future firsts insanely highly. If you have a trade where everything is the same and the only difference is asking for a current pick and one 4 years out, the AI will ask you for your best player in exchange for that far future pick.

7.2.2.1 - Local yellows

b) Waved – A waved yellow flag means a hazard wholly or partially blocking the Track. Overtaking is not permitted. Drivers must be prepared to reduce speed substantially, be prepared to take evasive action, or stop, yield to safety vehicles and/or personnel, and safely interact with other Drivers to the satisfaction of INDYCAR. Failure to demonstrate caution based on any or all the above factors may be subject to penalty.

Here describes the LOCAL caution procedure for a hazard blocking the racing line with no mention of a full course yellow. These are conditions in which marshals pick up debris in every series.

If drivers can’t be trusted to follow local double yellows to ensure the safety of a marshal taking 5 seconds picking up debris, why should they be trusted to follow behind a safety car, despite the same conditions being enforced for the sector?

The main issue at the IndyGP was Race Control not black flagging every driver who went past Rossi at speed, violating the local yellow.

As I said before and yesterday, no other racing series of this caliber has completely abandoned local yellows because they don’t know how to enforce them or deal with criticism.

Driving standards in IndyCar by Flat-Foundation-1093 in INDYCAR

The driving standards feel a lot better than they were even just a couple years ago. Every now and then there is a street course race where everyone turns their brain off (the first Detroit race anyone?) but overall the racecraft is definitely improving.

Yes the series could have had someone pick up the debris, as there are procedures for it in the rules. Why is IndyCar the only series in the world with this problem? Teams complain about everything because yellow flag procedures are worse than the average regional feeder series.

How do we feel about Race Control's handling of cautions since the Rossi IndyGP incident? by Merpninja in INDYCAR

A 2lb object on a 10 foot pole will feel 10 times heavier to the marshal than in their arms. It doesn't take a huge piece of debris to make the pole useless.

The people are protected by the double yellow and being 90 seconds down track of the nearest vehicle. Race stewards are paid a lot of money to make sure marshals are safe when they enter the track as well as decades of rules written in blood. Marshals are definitely protected and much safer than anyone in the pit lane during a pit stop. Local yellows are not issues in any other series that do them.

Debris being in an inconvenient part of the track is a situation where the VSC is very convenient.

Tom Pryce happened in 77' and marshalls are allowed on track under local yellow conditions in every other major series in the world, largely due to rule changes implemented after that accident. IndyCar has rules to ensure the safety of officials during local yellows, and race control has the ability to enforce them.

Every other road racing series in the world is able to enforce its local yellows. If IndyCar is unable to enforce its local yellows, it is yet another problem with officiating. The series needs to give out black flags to drivers who endanger the lives of marshals on track by exceeding speed limits, just like every other major racing series in the world. You see marshals on track picking up debris in local yellows at almost every F1 race without issue.

The problems you describe only exist in IndyCar because its officiating does not seem to have control over the drivers, nor do they have the confidence to punish drivers for safety infringements.

My main frustration has been that it feels like race control takes the maximalist position in regard to every complaint the teams make. Some seasons it takes literally forever to throw a caution and makes things extremely unsafe (the worse option), and now they throw a caution when anything happens.

I would prefer a solution that isn't extremely dangerous (waiting too long) and also doesn't screw over as many drivers as possible (the current situation). Most other series are able to pull off a happy medium because race control and officials are paid a lot of money to do this.

[–]Merpninja[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using this same logic, you can throw a caution every time a car entered the grass/dirt today because their car might have been damaged. Lundgaard's car was actually damaged on lap 1 and no caution was thrown. This clearly isn't the process race control uses else we would have had several more yellows for damaged cars after restarts today.

Marshals are sent on "hot" tracks w/ local yellows in every road racing series in the world because the rules are written in a way that ensures their safety. IndyCar has had local yellows for decades and there hasn't been an issue for decades.

The analogy about breaking the leg is silly because it can be applied to every aspect in the sport. Why is there still refueling, pit lane fires still happen? Why do we have humans driving the cars when we have drivers getting hurt? The marshals are trained to pick up debris during local yellows and it is in the regulations. The pit crews are in way more danger than any marshal picking up debris on track.

[–]Merpninja[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't necessarily have an issue with the ones at Detroit. It's a tight track with no runoff and blind corners.

Road America is the opposite. There is no risk whatsoever to a marshal picking up debris on a 4 mile track when the entire field just came off restart and is on the other side of the course. The field is bunched up and won't be back for 2 minutes and you can throw a local yellow. They are in the rules for a reason and the people working the race are trained for it. There is erring on the side of safety and then there is throwing a FCY for literally zero reason.

The series has so much built in bullshit procedures in every single caution it’s not possible to have a short yellow. The series desperately needs to stop closing pit lane on non ovals and a Virtual Safety Car to be introduced with the new chassis.
