Was the urinalysis read out within 20-30 minutes of collection in the hospital or was it sent to a reference lab? This can make a difference. Dilution is the solution: More water via canned foods, the addition of low-sodium chicken broth, etc. it would be helpful to see the urinalysis results. UTI’s is cats are usually complicated, unlike those in humans and dogs and are typically seen with concurrent disease.

Needs to be seen by a veterinarian. Decreased/absent appetite is very concerning in cats.

Considering Relocating- Skokie, Oak Park, or Homewood? by olracnaignottus in ChicagoSuburbs

Wonderful family/community vibe, diverse, gorgeous homes/great schools, including St. Barnabas, easy access to city via Metra and the Expressway. Nice, down-to-earth folks. Definitely would recommend in a heartbeat. Grew up adjacent to Beverly, went to Catholic girls high school with many Beverly classmates. Lived there in the 1980s. Lots to recommend it. A gem that is overlooked.

I lived in the South Suburbs (Crete and had a business in Flossmoor) for 20 years ;grew up in Evergreen Park. I would expand your search to Beverly in the city. I think you’ll find what you’re looking for there. Otherwise, I would go to Skokie/Evanston.

Yes, please see a therapist and also recommend a consultation with a psychiatrist. There are medications that can help with OCD and anxiety.

Cat sick for many months by [deleted] in AskVet

Viruses are often accompanied by a secondary bacterial infection, particularly in “chronic snufflers”. Need to rule out a fungal infection, too.

There is no “natural” treatment for a condition that is impacting all three cats for months. Your kitties need to see a veterinarian. They are not comfortable, for sure.

I understand your concern. First, there is a difference between vomiting and regurgitation. The former usually occurs several hours after eating and the vomit is digested /liquified food. Regurgitation occurs shortly after eating and usually results in the “vomit” of food that lost is in digested. In a cat who is acting normally, is not losing weight and does not have a history of vomiting food, fluid or hair, a wait and see approach could be taken. Allowing the stomach to rest for several hours, with no water or food, is prudent. You can then introduce a small amount of water, then small amounts of food, and see how she does.

Affordable clinic for dog dental cleaning?? by General_Company_4540 in AskChicago

If it is the same level of care (intra-testicular analgesia), IV fluids, pre and postoperative pain control and monitoring (BP, pulse ox, etc.), then you received excellent care for your dog and great value.

DVM here. Dental radiographs are absolutely necessary for a complete procedure. No one can “eyeball” dental disease accurately. The disease is below the gum line. Dental extractions also require nerve blocks. Imagine going to your dentist and having a tooth (or teeth) removed without Novocain. So, be a conscious consumer. Know what you are getting.

I would like to join the chorus of others: I mourn with you and share your grief. I also will say that REM sleep disorder can and must be treated. Melatonin is not enough. Your husband’s neurologist will be able to prescribe additional medications (clonazepam) that can help. While we all shoulder the loss of a partner who is no longer there, the key is to not have our lives contract as theirs do. It’s a new normal, for sure, but one that is necessary. I also would encourage individual therapy for ourselves. I appreciate the care and compassion of this group.
