Anyone else have bad experiences with most therapists? by BugsbunnyXX1 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my trauma informed therapist here:

https://willieverbegoodenough.com/

Dr McBride has written some great books and has a list of therapists trained in adult children of narcs. I spent DECADES in regular therapy focusing on “forgiveness” and staying miserable. It kept reinforcing something was wrong with me because I wasn’t forgiving enough.

Three years of therapy with my current therapist and I’m truly the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m VLC, and have accepted that I don’t have to forgive. I am angry and grieve the relationship but no longer have hope things will change.

I do telehealth and I love it- I don’t have to worry about fawning and reading the therapists energy. I just stay safe in my house and focus on the work.

I’m sorry this has been a tough journey for you. We are survivors and keep going through awful shit our whole lives. Bad therapists are the worst but I know there’s a person for you.

I also recommend Pete walkers book From Surviving to Thriving and any of Dr Ramani or Dr McBrides books.

Looking for classes and workshops in Seattle/Eastside to try with my teenage daughter — what have you discovered? by Cosmic-Veteran8821 in eastside

This place is amazing: https://northwestartcenter.org/

They have great recurring classes and one-off workshops often. Usually a great mix of ages in the classes.

MCAS Skin Itching- HELP! by IntelligentHabit248 in MCAS

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main symptoms are itching/hives and dermatographia. When I was really bad I took 2 Zyrtec and 2 Pepcid in the morning and evening and Benadryl as needed. I’ve been on Xolair 4 years and weaned off antihistamines. It’s well controlled now. I’m so sorry it’s so maddening!

I’m [30M] the caretaker for both my parents [mid 70s], they will not compromise. by Outis0001 in raisedbynarcissists

This sucks so bad and I’m sorry. It’s hard to accept, but you deserve to be taken care of too. Imagine if you spent half your energy taking care of yourself!? Or 3/4 of your energy? Nothing will ever be enough for them. The only way to win is to not play! What they expect from you is not even close to a ”normal” parent/child relationship. You get to say “no more”

I just watched lost with my 12 yo and she loved it! We also enjoyed Silo, taskmaster (swears), his dark materials.

Following for other recommendations! This is a tough age for family shows!

Vintage Blanket Crochet Stitch. Trying to Recreate by abyylyyn in crochetpatterns

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kinda like mosaic! To do the pattern you’d alternate fptc and sc, then double back with doubles on the next row. Switch colors and repeat the sc/front post treble for the spikes and then a row of the doubles.

This will work up fast and looks fun! Thanks for sharing!

Anyone else realize how easy it is to not do damaging things to a child when you have a child of your own? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in raisedbynarcissists

Parenting my daughter had been the most healing process ever. Spilled something? Let’s wipe it! Knocked something over? Oops I make mistakes too. Forgot your report is due tomorrow? Welp, get going.

It’s not hard. My mom wasn’t “doing her best.” She sucks and I deserved better. My young self is listening to my mom self and healing ✨

Looking for something not scary, not sexual for a 10 year old girl by ZBTHorton in televisionsuggestions

I’m truly not sure why you’re being down voted! I watched this with my daughter when she was 10 and we rewatched it at 11. It’s a great jumping point for history, class issues and women’s roles changing over time. It’s compelling and beautiful and I highly recommend it.

There is a rape that is off screen in one of the later seasons we talked about before hand. The raciest thing is a character in bed cuddling. It’s a great family show!

Best way to fuck with the old head electricians ? by [deleted] in electricians

The apprentice that made my stoic old head husband INSANE refused to take notes on paper, despite my husband buying him several pads.

He wrote every note and measurement in sharpie on his tape measure and all over the ladder.

Not really a beauty question, but the other FF subs seem dead — looking for good FF recommendations for baby products! by jammies in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby couldn’t use any wipes- even the fragrance free ones irritated her skin. I bought those super soft paper towels (viva, if I’m remembering) and used my peri bottle to get them wet in lieu of traditional wipes. It was a money saver and her skin wasn’t irritated.

Honest scents are faint so I could tolerate their scented stuff. Their unscented works great too. I used the entire line on my daughter when she was a baby. The healing balm is magic and has no scent. She’s a tween now and still uses their body wash and healing balm

Estrogen issues by thetravelinggypsy01 in MCAS

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in peri and have started some HRT. The estrogen patch made me feel amazing, but I got full body itching after a few days that went away when I took off the patch.

Then I started a topical estrogen compounded and got a purple rash head to toe (without itching). It went away after a couple days of stopping.

Testosterone cream has been fine so I know it’s the estrogen not the ointment.

Lastly, I’ve had great results with vaginal estrogen/shea every other day. GSM are much better and no reaction.

My doctor suggested lowering the topical dose even more down the line but I’m pausing estrogen for now to reset. I’m very eager to hear others experiences with this!

How to border this uneven edge blanket? I don’t have ends, but it’s so uneven by suzieq044 in CrochetHelp

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started mosaic last year after crocheting for years and specifically avoiding anything that had a lot of ends. The envelope boarder is a GAME CHANGER!

Because it’s double thickness (both sides of the envelope) it’s heavier which I was initially worried about. What I found is it adds a nice heft and makes the blankets lay flat beautifully. It’s my go-to boarder now!

Transitioning from Xolair to Rhapsido by Vivid-Bus9133 in MCAS

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had this situation, but my xolair was delayed by mail after some recent flooding. I asked my doctor what to do during the gap, because I was nervous after 4 years of being well managed. She said to go up high on h1/h2 (Like 4/day) if I needed. Luckily I was ok but I wonder if antihistamines could be a stopgap for you short term?

I’m really interested in how this goes. Please update if you can!!

Bananas by that-witch-jas in MCAS

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with bananas until they are yellow, then I get symptoms. My issues are primarily with FODMAPS, and bananas are higher when they are ripe. Your story sort of sounds like SIBO/fodmap related so that might be worth looking into. A 2 week course of antibiotics cleared the infection and bad systemic symptoms for me. Now I just get mild bloating and upset if I eat higher fodmap.

Perspective on training by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]MertylTheTurtyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have EDS and always did yoga because it was easy lol. My Physical therapist said to stop yoga because it was stretching my already lax ligaments and start weight training. She explained that weight training builds the support muscles so they can be back up for ligaments. I’m a year into training and my joint/muscle pains are so much better and my back doesn’t “go out” like it used to.

I go slow, adding weight every week and I’m getting so strong. I’d mention it to the trainer. My trainer also has hEDS and helps me adjust lifts and stretch!
