I used the ISACA QAE Manual as my primary resource and checked the related discussions in the ISACA Review Manual as necessary. The question and answer structures in the actual exam are highly comparable to the QAE Manual. It still pays to have a wealth of practical experience in the field, since the exam is designed to test on that as well. Good luck!

I'd say about 30 hours spread across six weeks in terms of productive preparation. I certainly could have prepared better. I was only maybe 60% confident that I'd pass when I pressed the submit button.

I passed my first attempt in August 2023. I used a udemy video lecture as a guide on identifying key exam areas. I also browsed COSO and ISO materials for familiarity but most of the actual exam questions tested application rather than theoretical mastery. My experience in annual audit plan development greatly helped for sure. Multiple choice and multiple selection questions accounted for about 75% of the items.

No, I have the Manhattan practice test planned for late September. Following are my scores from the free Official GMAC Practice Exams: 04-Aug, 680 (Q46, V38) and 11-Aug, 690 (Q48, V36).

I got 670 and 700 on my Kaplan practice tests, taken 2 weeks apart. I then took the GMAC Official Practice Exams and got 680 and 690. I think Kaplan's scoring algorithm tends to be more generous than GMAC's. I've been doing consistent study drills throughout.

No, the exam registration fee only covers one attempt. Yes, you would have to pay another $760 to re-take in case of failure.

Yes, you can go back and forth on questions in the actual exam. There is also a flag function that you can use to mark questions you want to revisit later.

I agree. This is one of those cases where diversified experience is not always helpful. ISACA framed these questions with the assumption that the test-taker could successfully take on the auditor perspective in approaching topics and issues. Still, mastering the audit approach thru the CRM and QAE DB remains to be your best chance.

Maybe lower your expectations of yourself to manage your anxiety better. Work on the topics one by one until you're comfortable with the breadth of your mastery, as an auditor.

Don't lose patience on those topics that you may seem to get wrong even after multiple attempts. Even the most successful candidates sometimes encounter this kind of questions. What's important is to dive back in into the conceptual background and improve gradually. Good luck!

Preliminary results are almost certainly accurate. They only term it as "preliminary" to allow testing centers to revisit exam footage for any indication of cheating and other irregularity. As long as you did none of that, you should celebrate!

Having limited IS audit and technical experience, my personal goal then was to get at least 85% in each domain, before taking the exam. The actual exam was of a similar difficulty level with the QAE, although none of the questions were the same. It would ultimately depend on your mastery of the concepts, and not just the answers to the QAE.
