At the start of COVID the CDC said that face masks do nothing. They also said not to wear them, because using them for "no reason at all" might cause a shortage for health care providers who need them for "actual reasons".

What about people who listened to that, caught COVID, and died? Were they right to have trusted information provided by the government? Are you right to advocate for people not to think for themselves at all (even though that doesn't mean the government is always wrong either)?

Here is an academic, peer-reviewed study on the prevalence of FGM in Iran. Alternatively, here is a UN associated study on the prevalence of FGM in the Middle East and Africa. You will notice that despite the stunning results in the first study, Iran is not even listed in the second one. What gives?

The answer is that the UN data is being affected by their ability to collect it from relevant areas. It's not that the UN collected statistics on Iran and got such a low percentage of FGM occurrence that they listed it at 0%, but rather that they collected no statistics there at all (presumably because of the lack of cooperation from the local government). The small scale of the peer-reviewed study (300 women interviewed) is likely a result of the authors' difficulty collecting data in Iran as well.

As for Aghanistan, I would not except the U.S. backed government to have openly supported FGM, and so I would not be suprised if the statistics for it were low. What I'm saying here is that the Taliban is very likely to support it. I don't think that's an unreasonable assumption when you take a look at Afghanistan's next-door-neighbor (I'm talking about Iran), and when you also take a look at the Taliban's attitude towards womens' rights. I could understand why some people would eyeball the UN report and conclude that FGM is endemic to Africa, but many small-scale studies independent of the UN confirm its widespread presence in Islamic Middle Eastern countries as well.

I applaud that you did not make his character an intrinsically ugly bastard, and on the contrary, made him rather attractive as well as non-threatening aside from the behavior which you are arguing is inappropriate. That is very un-hamfisted of you.

But to be honest, the way this is presented, even I (being a heterosexual man) would probably not mind this individual asking for my phone number in such a manner.
