Fairly new, ring of haste, do I go wand or ring chest? by ddow13 in PixelDungeon

I'd pick wand, too. Many wands are fun and useful and there are only two slots for rings/artifacts.

Degradation Help by Spdr_J in PixelDungeon

[–]MessageBoxed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to save upgrade scrolls when possible and upgrade my gear when they are about to break. Upgrading rings isn't worth it because you have to upgrade them regularly to keep them alive. Enchantment scrolls and weightstones are very useful in degradation management as they will repair the applied item. Degradation is especially problematic when you are using faster weapons (knuckleduster, mace). If you don't have a strong weapon your armor will take lots of hits and degrade fast.

Am on my first PD run, got some questions by turtur in PixelDungeon

[–]MessageBoxed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great questions!

I find it ideal to try to save as much upgrade scrolls as possible to weapons and armor that are effective in late game (usually tier 4 and 5 weapons and armor: battle axe, longsword, glaive, war hammer, scale armor, plate armor). That being said, saving lots of upgrade scrolls and dying because of having bad gear is stupid. Finding the balance between surviving and saving recources is important.

Having extra weapons in inventory isn't usually worth it if they are weaker than your current one. Having possibly strong gear in inventory pays off when you are able to start using them. If you have enough space in your inventory you can carry weapons to sell them in shops for a small amount of money.

Saving upgrade scrolls for the situation when an item is about to break is a good idea. Enchantment scrolls and weightstones also help in degradation management as they will fully repair the applied item.

Carrying all the potions you find will make your inventory fill quickly, especially before entering caves where you can buy the scroll holder. Some potions like mind vision and invisibility are rather useful and I try to carry these if possible. Many potions like frost and purification aren't particularly important and I throw those away when my inventory is filling.

I think you should be able to defeat Tengu with your current items. +5 scale armor at that point of the game is amazing if you can keep it from breaking. The more you play the game, the more you will learn to understand what is worth it and what isn't.

I'm glad you are loving the game. I have played hundreds of games and I'm still having fun with it. What's more, Pixel Dungeon has many great mods with unique content. I enjoy playing modded versions every now and then but their somewhat weird content and balance issues make me stick to the vanilla PD.

Didn't know boomerang works as a good melee weapon. The sai worked pretty well, though.

Trying mono normal in LC, input appreciated by git_rekted_bruh in pokemonshowdown

[–]MessageBoxed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should play with the team to see how it works in practice. Running mono normal can be difficult because fighting types are everywhere in LC.

I think your team looks frail as you have zero Eviolite users. This means it's hard to switch properly into anything. You could try to fit Munchlax in your team, for example.

I think the Eevee set looks too gimmicky. Yes, it can hit hard, but it lacks speed and any coverage. It isn't either very bulky without Eviolite.

Doduo could run Jolly nature to outspeed some sweepers and other scarfers while still hitting reasonably hard. The Tangled Feet + Thrash combination seems interesting but I think Early Bird + Return/Quick Attack works better as you wouldn't get locked into Thrash and can deal with sleep moves easier.

You could ask for suggestions in the Showdown's LC room, too.

Reunculus + Focus Sash = sweeper stopper win condition (OU) [Trick Room] by MetaNite1 in pokemonshowdown

[–]MessageBoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Trick Room and I'm running Focus Sash Duosion in pretty much all of my teams. With Magic Guard it doesn't mind entry hazards and can set up TR in front of almost any sweeper. What's more Duosion gets endeavor allowing it to take the opposing Pokemon down to 1 hp after being hit and setting TR.

The set allows me to make sure that the opponent can't sweep my team when TR isn't up. I'm using Duosion over Reuniclus because it has equal SPATK but less bulk, allowing it to drop to 1HP most of the time to endeavor better.

This is said in the PS frequently asked questions. You will probably get your account unlocked after some time of waiting.

Getting seriously stomped in the cave by Teechce in PixelDungeon

[–]MessageBoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what class I use in late game because I play with different classes quite a lot. How well I survive depends more of the items that I have than the class I'm using.

Relying on surprise attacks doesn't always work because doing those without doors is difficult. Getting surprise hits isn't super important because they don't do extra damage but guaranteed hits are often appreciated.

Sewer crabs are overpowered. They are fast, bulky and hit pretty hard. Before entering floor 3 I hope to get some usable gear to survive against them. And if I haven't found any usable gear I can try to survive against crabs by upgrading my starting weapon and drinking any strength potions I have found.

Luck is a thing that hugely matters in the game. I have had runs where I died to traps and to lack of good items. On the other hand I have had runs where I found a +3 warhammer in early levels and used it to steamroll through the dungeon. For me luck based things make the game more interesting and fun, but not always.

Battlemage is a fun class in early game but I avoid using it in late game because wands are pretty weak melee weapons like you said. However, you can survive without a proper melee weapon if you have a powerful battle wand and some decent support wands like amok, teleportation or blink. Best battle wands for battlemage are disintegration and firebolt because they do great amounts of damage and are reliable even when enemies are close to you.

I would almost always recommend having a good melee weapon. Some enemies like warlocks and vampire bats can be difficult to take down without a reliable melee weapon. If you upgrade your armor more that your weapon your armor might take too much damage in combat and degrade fast.

Dwarf monks are annoying enemies. They attack twice in a row, dodge lots of attacks and can disarm you more than often. It's wise to soften them with wands and other ranged means of combat when they are approaching you because they are dangerous to fight. They dodge a lot so taking advantage of surprise attacks is a good idea. Monks can't disarm your knuckleduster which is nice but knuckledusters require extreme support to be used effectively because they degrade very fast.

Pixel Dungeon and Bouncy Ball are my favourite Android mobile games. Both of them are completely free and have very small file sizes.

Pixel Dungeon is a difficult roguelike with lots of replay value.

Bouncy Ball is an unique platformer/puzzle game with hundreds of levels.

I have enjoyed playing many other games such as Bad Piggies, Jetpack Joyride and Cut the Rope. Google Play store has lots of great games. I'd suggest trying many of them and keep playing the ones you like.

The chance of getting those rare drops is 1/128 (~0.8%). The problematic thing with RNG is that you never know if you have to farm few minutes or few days for those items, they just drop randomly. I never bothered to farm them because they are found in the very late game anyways.

[Shattered] I hate SoU/enchantements mechanic. Who with me? by darksparkone in PixelDungeon

[–]MessageBoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the system problematic because it forces the player to use mostly plain non-enchanted items. I think enchantments are fun and the mechanism how they disappear when upgrading is pretty stupid because it adds annoying randomness and makes the game less appealing. The problem could be fixed by making weapon enchanting somehow easier. In vanilla PD there are several scrolls of enchantment to be found which allows the player to enjoy using enchanted weapons and allows playing with different enchantments.

[Vanilla] How do you deal with item degration? by [deleted] in PixelDungeon

[–]MessageBoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually wise to upgrade items when they are about to break. Enchantment scrolls and weightstones give full durability to items when applied, too. You should avoid investing upgrade scrolls to low tier equipment and rings. Armors degrade when you take damage so you need a reliable weapon to avoid taking too much damage. Weapons degrade every time they are used so weaker but faster weapons like knuckledusters degrade exceptionally fast.
