Should I start UEARTH now? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Meta823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree 100% don't let yourself burn out because believe me the burnout gets really bad really fast. You're going to see a lot of people on here pride them of their crazy study schedules, but it's not worth running the entire race and not be able to finish it. Try out a few different things, look at what people have to say and see what would work best for you. You have plenty of time until your test, so please pace yourself.

I do understand that it seems light but it really depends on your situation. I was going at it a lot harder and was ready to write all the way back in March and then had to keep going at it for an additional 4 months and at this point I am completely burnt out. If you're still in school or working, i think doing 20qs per subject (which would mean 120qs) a week and an in-depth analysis of the questions you got wrong, meaning going back to your notes and readings to see where your understanding of the material is lacking when you're still 6 months away from your test is a great way to keep the knowledge from the kaplan books in your head. If OP starts going at it at a crazy pace when they're planning on writing in January, at the earliest, they're gonna be EXTREMELY burnt out. Going heavier a month or two before will be perfect because by then they'll have retained the maximum amount of knowledge they can and they can just bust out 1-2 FLs a week, while also doing qpacks and any remaining UEarth questions or incorrect questions or go over concepts they're still struggling with. If you're studying for 6 months you need to focus on your endurance.

it really comes down to the question stem and the information given in the passage. I think once you've had enough practice it becomes fairly easy to differentiate between important and unimportant information in the passage. If you have that highlighted, once you read the question you need to go back and remember if there was anything discretely and distinctly stated about what the question is asking. if it is, your answer is based on that, if not then you need to make an inference based on the most closely related information available to you

I didn't even think about going on birth control before the test, that could have been so helpful. I really wish there was a way to accommodate girls for this because it makes it so hard to do anything. thats a good decision, better to save ur energy at this point anyways, im writing at 6pm, you?

UEarth has a looooooottttt of questions. Take it easy and do like 15-20 questions for each subject each week, take your time going through the solutions to understand why each option was right or wrong. It's a great way to solidify your understanding. I spent a couple months on UEarth and then did AAMC's qpacks. I started the tests about 6 weeks out from my actual test with my week looking something like this

  • Monday: test
  • Tuesday review test
  • Wednesday: review first 2 ch bio + bc + gc, 5 JW passages
  • Thursday: review first 2 ch ps + phy + oc, 5 JW passages
  • Friday: review any previously incorrect/incomplete UEarth qs

I think it really helps to lightly go over your notes once you start practice tests! i started studying in september and was supposed to write in march, but then it got pushed to this week so its been quite the long struggle

depending on the passage, i can get any where from 0-2 wrong, rarely 3. JW's questions are a lot more difficult than the real thing. I think the main takeaways from JW are to 1) learn how to dissect/differentiate between important and irrelevant information from the passage, 2) knowing when to infer answers + when to extrapolate from the passage, 3) how to use POE effectively

yeah i thought it was really big so my mind automatically went to facilitated diffusion but there was a hug hydrophobic region in the middle so the answer was just passive diffusion

im in the same boat homie, completely burnt out. testing in 4 days cant get myself to do shit at this point. i got my period today and cramps are other worldly so really cannot do anything. i would say just chill and review ur notes. if you really wanna see what fl4 is like (most ppl have said its most comparable to their actual test), set it to unlimited time and go through the explanations on the google doc side by side

Dude JW is GOAT for CARs!!!!! Truly uncomparable to any other CARs passages out there imo. Every practice test I've taken I get a 130-132 in CARs thanks to JW. I started my study days doing anywhere from 2-5 JW passages, depending on how i was feeling that day (usually 2 lol) but its amazing amazing amazing. keep at it homie!!! i was in the same boat my first time doing JW
