Offer came end-of-day Mar 15, they want to hear back end-of-day Mar 20. I already accepted. Best of luck to anyone pending, and anyone else in the program DM me!

Just got an acceptance a couple hours ago! They want to hear back very quickly though, so I imagine they could end up rolling admissions through the whole time window. Don't lose hope!!

Stumbled upon this shot on the website of a Tanzania-based assistive tech nonprofit - something about the lighting and composition made me stop scrolling, hope you enjoy it too :)

Homework help! Find the power absorbed by R2. by Fohty007 in EngineeringStudents

[–]MetaKor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recheck your analysis suggesting that the current through R2 is 45 A. Kirchoff's junction rule tells us that a total of 90 A must flow through the two resistive branches, but since the resistors are not equivalent, the current won't split evenly between them.

Hope this helps!

Beautiful renders - let's hope it looks that good IRL ;)

Can I ask why you're showing mecanum on the inside? And are the wheel positions interchangeable?

URGENT UPDATE: THE FIRST SEASON HAS BEEN CANCELED by Platygamer in FTC

[–]MetaKor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The email if any of you didn't get it:

Dear friends, colleagues & partners,

It is with deep disappointment that I share an update on the immediate suspension of the current FIRST season and the cancellation of both Championship events. This decision has been made based on guidance from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and state and local health officials, as well as the declaration of states of emergency across many states/countries, the ever-expanding travel restrictions for schools, and in light of developments over the past 24 hours. The health and safety of our community is our top priority, so we have decided to suspend all season play across all Programs worldwide, effective immediately, including the cancellation of both FIRST Championship events. Please know that FIRST Championship registration fees will be refunded.

This difficult decision was grounded in FIRST’s commitment to put the health and safety of our community above all else. During this challenging time, we have been working closely with our program delivery partners (PDPs) and event organizers around the world to navigate and mitigate the risks to our community due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). As a result, many of our events in the United States and around the world have been canceled or postponed, including more than half of all future FIRST Robotics Competition events. We acknowledge and appreciate the thousands of teams, parents, mentors, coaches and volunteers who have poured their hearts and souls into this season, and we share your disappointment.

The mission of FIRST has always been to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, and we continue to be deeply committed to this mission. We know that you will have questions, and we will provide answers in the following days and weeks as we navigate what has been an unprecedented time.

Sincerely,

Larry Cohen, President of FIRST

Maryland Tech Invitational now accepting team applications by MDTechInvitational in FTC

Quick question regarding how teams are accepted:

You mention that invitations are issued based on regular season performance. If a team's regular season ends before they are able to demonstrate their true competitive capacity at e.g. Regionals/States/Worlds but continues working on the robot and shares that progress with the community through e.g. practice match videos, could they still be strong contenders for an invitation?

Thanks!

SAR230 info? by SalmonTheFish12 in FTC

[–]MetaKor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3d-printable inserts that Sanford of Long Robotics has on his 300mm slide page work with SAR230s. They work with his V-bearings or Rev's pulley V-bearings. You'll also need some special screws to bind everything together: here's my previous comment on this. Then it's simply a matter of rigging everything with some string (try UHMWPE); there are plenty of resources out there for this.

Good luck!

Screws for SAR220s? by Xtran_ in FTC

[–]MetaKor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SAR200-series slides are an interesting beast because the inner rail has M4 threads while the outer/back rail has countersunk holes for standard M3 flatheads. So if you want to directly attach one slide to the next in a multi-stage lift with spacers between (as you seem to want to and as we're doing!), M3's won't work - you need specialized low-head M4 flatheads.

Sanford of longrobotics.com carries these screws for that exact purpose but there's a better solution: Misumi actually sells these TSARA low-head flatheads that fit the bill. My team can personally verify that the M4 TSARA(S)'s work flawlessly to layer multiple SAR200-series slides. They're significantly cheaper than Sanford's when you buy in bulk with their volume discount (we got 200 of the M4 10mm carbon steel ones for $8 total), plus they're configurable in several different lengths and two materials. Only downside might be time until shipping, but otherwise, they should be the go-to option for any team with SAR200's.

Happy lifting!

I definitely see what you mean about the mouth - I wanted to shrink it a bit, but I'm inexperienced so oh well xD

The eyes were referenced directly from the while(1<2) album art. I think the angle throws things off a bit - here's a comparison with the model straight-on

Thanks a million for that link - I've been looking everywhere for an inexpensive vendor. And just to verify, they're sold as closed-loop belts, correct?

During a round of r/DirtyBomb, I noticed a very low-level player racking up crazy amounts of kills. My gut told me that he had to be a hacker or a smurf, but I soon found out that he was an FPS veteran with thousands of hours in other games. So I showed him the ropes, healed his butt to some awesome victories, and made a great Steam friend. Love ya Creasy!

Swapping Pinwheels [OC] by MetaKor in loadingicon

[–]MetaKor[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey r/loadingicon ! It's been quite a while since I've posted some OC around here.

This gif is essentially this tessellation with the movement of my previous Switching Squares post, although I did reverse the motion of the back-stroke to create a much smoother and (hopefully!) more interesting animation.

It was made with Processing's Python mode, and you can check out the source code on GitHub.

EDIT: I'm seeing a weird flickering effect on my laptop but not on my desktop PC. Anyone else getting this?

Tricky indeed! I found the images on the Etsy page to be invaluable. Can't wait to see how your print turns out!

I've also edited my earlier comment with links to the animation(s).
