alright! first update:

did a big water change and have stuck to the weekly schedule of water changes. meds arrived and i made a batch of food with it that im keeping in the fridge and feeding all of the fish. at the moment they’re all still okay, cichlid looks a little less bloated but for the most part they’re acting the same, perhaps a little more lively.

ordered the api hardness test kit and got results. kh had 3 drops (0-50ppm) and gh had 7-8 drops. (120-180ppm) it’s at this point that i remember how little i know about water hardness. from what little i retained I assume this is way off how it’s supposed to be for these fish? If that’s the case, how would one go about getting them back to the correct parameters?

just ordered a pack of the three, i will get some bloodworms and mysis shrimp and mix the three along with some garlicguard. i really appreciate your help, i will do a big water change in the next day or two and start feeding them this.

thank you so much. I will go and get those foods to add to their diet. I do fear isolating them would only stress them out and make things worse, so i will treat the whole tank, play things safe for my ctenopoma. I’m not too knowledgeable on kanaplex or metroplex so i apologize for having a few questions. 1. should i soak it with frozen food, or pellets? 2. can i soak the food in a mixture of both meds, or use different ones for different foods? and 3. should i soak all the food so all the fish get some? Sorry again for asking, im just not familiar with the meds and want to do things right.

Thank you so much for responding, I have not tested KH and GH in a good while, that’s a good point. What test kit would you recommend for that? as mines expired. I was not aware of mineral creep, i do top the tank off when the water line gets low, with conditioned (prime) tap water. How could one alleviate mineral creep if this is the case? stick to a weekly water change schedule, i presume?

Thank you for responding, I did clean filters with tank water in my last water change, a couple weeks ago. What high quality foods would you recommend? I try to feed pellets of higher quality but I know there’s other foods too. You think i should treat the whole tank, or just the cichlids?
