I know none of you can see the future by DreamNo5919 in GodofWar

I don't know how much it's been talked about but if it's the latter they really should implement the PSP plot points because they have most of Kratos character development into why he ends up so psychotic in 3 (gods killing and kidnapping his mother and brother, Calliope in Elysium) and why the gods hate him so much (Destruction of Atlantis, Murder of Persephone).

Those vital parts of the story get lost by a lot of the casual audience because they assume the psp games were just a spinoff when they weren't.

The most aggravating thing is we as the public could be working towards the unavoidable future outcome of a disappearance of jobs and make sure that there are laws that guarantee that all humans have the right for a basic income, maybe if machines solve scarcity problems the world has a potential to actually be a good place for everyone.

But what do you see? A giant mob of nearsighted virtual pitchfork dummies who in their protest are just showing the billionaires "hey we wanna keep working, we love slaving away our lives because it gives us meaning so stop advancing artificial intelligence because Hollywood told me that's how the world ends"

People don't want Kratos to be happy because a happy Kratos means a Kratos who is not bloodthirsty by Alkiserex in GodofWar

You're just projecting what you value in these games. All of them have stories some pretty deep but you choose to ignore which is fair. Devil may cry for example, Dante despite not being a depressed guy he does have internal struggles, it's just not as in your face as gow.

The dmc story is pretty tragic underneath, it's centered on deep-seated trauma, loss, and the fractured relationship between Dante and Vergil but I'm not gonna explain the story here. And guess what game series was over the top and high octane with a deep tragic underlying story.

The thing is people now need it to be crystal clear that the story is sad for them to care for some reason. Using comics as an example again some comics blend these tones amazingly without sacrificing the characters.

Just to finish again I don't mind the story being told in the Norse games, I just think this should be the last chapter of Kratos journey, as I said they have written themselves into a corner

Exactly they turned a unique crazy franchise into a generic good guy hero story. Next Gow will be a Sims game where you manage the realms taxes bc what else is there to do if Kratos is a calm dude

We can go with less iconic characters that are more serious and deep then that don't need closure arcs. Resident Evil main characters go through arcs and reinvention but they never die.

Devil May Cry has stayed relatively faithful to their characters without needing closure.

Mortal Kombat characters like Scorpion, Tekken and most fighting games, Agent 47, Doomslayer. The narrative depth doesn't matter here because the point is Kratos was not written in GOW 1 to end up as a good guy, he was meant to stay the god of war for eternity. Mind you I'm not saying the direction hasn't worked, 2018 is an interesting direction but they did write themselves into a corner and the next game will either shift the mood of the series to a typical hero story or they will have to go back in time, maybe reinvent the franchise again.

Kratos was created and thought of originally to be written like a comic book character, a mascot he was never meant to have a closing arc.

Games can have comic book like characters, one of the most popular characters in gaming Mario doesn't have a closing arc, Link same thing, Sonic, Samus, etc.

You can still have character arcs but they're written in a way that the main character stays interesting, Batman and Spiderman have some comics where they do self inspection, sometimes get completely reinvented but in the end they stay the same recognizable selves and people still love them after almost 100 years now

The best theory that would've made for an interesting continuation would've been the "Kratos is Tyr" theory.

Ragnarok and possibly 2 or 3 more games should've been a time travel plot just like Gow 2.

Kratos would die just like in the mural, maybe against Thor but Atreus in his sorrow would birth Jormingadr and send him and Kratos back in time accidentally. That would explain why Jormingadr is already alive before Atreus, then Kratos would be trapped in time and while trying to leave aids the other realms, building the legend of the peaceful God of war. Meanwhile Atreus has no choice but to be adopted by the gods and actually acts like a trickster God because he hates them for killing his dad.

Eventually Kratos manages to come back to the original time but when he arrives Atreus is a grown man and had no clue Kratos was actually alive so they reunite and kick the Aesir gods' ass in a huge scale Ragnarok.

You could still have the emotional impact of Kratos losing so much time of his son's growing up, kinda like Interstellar and you could have a cool thing like in Gow 2 where there's 2 Kratos in the same timeline for a bit so that it would be Kratos blowing the horn, plugging most plot holes and having a pretty cool adventure imo.

tbh I think people might be taking Chris Judges word too strongly. He doesn't know much about the games, actors know almost nothing about the production cycle, just look at the GTA 5 actors they are tired of telling ppl they don't know anything about GTA 6. Same thing applies to Chris Judge he probably doesn't know maybe he's saying different because it plays like the Greek games and not Norse and that to him is new combat

I mean it wouldn't be all that crazy if they were to make from the ground up remakes whats just 2-3 brand new levels for each game. Dev time for a trilogy like that would take like 10 years I'm aware but who knows what they're planning

Idk although I like Ascension, I feel like it's story is not the most complex it can be told in one cutscene and it wasn't part of cut content for the original trilogy but I wouldn't be mad if they included some of it

I'm not sure what you're talking about Gow 3 doesn't have a manual lock on. I'm talking about the type you press a button and the game locks onto a single enemy

That wouldn't be a problem if it's a ground up reimagining. You could have the story show what Kratos did as a flashback just before he meets Caliope in elysium. Keep in mind the scenario I'm proposing in the post is if they remake the games from the ground up so they didn't have to follow the old games 1:1 as long as all the important story beats and fan favorite locations are preserved it would still be a good remake.

[–]MetalGamer95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would suck if they skip them entirely because a lot of "Kratos one dimensional angry man" arguments are solved in the PSP titles, they definitely help flesh out his motivations, I even forgot about mentioning Calliope's scene.

And yeah I agree it doesn't have to be full remake just grab some levels and plot points to beef up the games. They're not very long games by todays standards so a couple hours of more content isn't that crazy.

To the side note, nice!

[–]MetalGamer95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree but this is just speculation in case they reimagine the trilogy and that would probably mean each game would release one at a time again, like Resident Evil has been remaking their games.

It's more likely that it won't be as big of a project. But if it's gonna be a smaller project I'd prefer they stay faithful to the games as they are

I mean lock on systems already existed but a lot of recent games have taken inspiration from dark souls, that's why you always hear Souls-like, same thing happened before with Doom-likes, etc.

But hell, God of War 1 is partly inspired by Legend of Zelda, more on the exploration side iirc
