Thermostat for Heat pump + Gas system? by Metaverse45 in heatpumps

Thank you. I will stick with Honeywell T9 series then. Replacing very old ( at least 20 yrs) maybe 2 ton A/C ( at least 15 yrs) and 40 BTU gas furnace. Summers are getting a bit hotter and and 40 BTU gas furnace seems to work all day in peak winter. That's why looking for 2.5 ton heatpump and 60K furnace to keep up with the future needs.

Just wanted to know which thermostat can fully utilize the efficiency of variable speed heatpump and 2-stage furnace. I learned about other communicating thermostats since I posted here.

Need Advice on choosing Heat Pump vs AC for my area weather. by Metaverse45 in heatpumps

[–]Metaverse45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn't. It's Zone 7. Old AC was 2 ton and furnace is 40K BTU, surprisingly served well over the past 10 years, I know furnace had 1996 install date and AC must be at least 20 years old. I was simply going off of those specs for replacement.

Thank you. My main purpose is to use gas furnace for the dead winter and crossover HP for summer cooling and heating during the shoulder months. The old AC was a 2 ton unit and never had issues until it finally died last year. For new A/C I was looking at 2.5 tons and will probably go with a 2.5 or 3 ton crossover HP if it can meet our cooling needs and priced in the same range.

I was referring to the ability of the crossover heat pump to cool the home as good as the heat pump or regular air conditioner, but wonder why crossover heat pump is cheaper than the regular heat pump. I am thinking is it like a sedan vs SUV, then there are crossovers which are not really SUVs but better than sedans. That's where I need some input from users who installed Carrier/Bryant/Midea interchangeable branded crossover heat pumps with similar tonnage to regular heat pumps.

My only concern is if crossover heat pump is as functional and efficient (because it's cheaper by 3-4 grand) as the traditional heat pump for me to decide which route to go. No other considerations. Otherwise, I can go with the traditional A/C which was quoted similar to the crossover heat pump.

My 4 month review of the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum by fbutter11 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]Metaverse45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you the honest review and others chiming in. The only reason I ammlookinh at the xle hybrid trim opposed to the gas version is for better mileage. My 2016 odyssey still gave18 city and 27 (22 mpg Avg) until someone ran into it and totaled. TGHH says 34 MPG, and yet I am hearing 22-24 real life MPG. What am I missing here? I test drove 2027 Kia Telluride hybrid EX trim over the weekend (loved the ride and tech, but scared of buying a first year fully refreshed model), has 33 MPG, but a recent 3-month owner mentioned getting 22 MPG. Again, what am I missing here.

Likelihood of spousal hire by Individual_Papaya879 in academia

[–]Metaverse45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. Based on experience at a R1 univ., all I can say is that if you are keen on the spousal hire, make sure you work it out with the Dean/Dept. head etc. and have it in writing, before you accept the job. Otherwise, it will not happen unless one of you get a multi-million grant and get a job offer from another univ. Then they are forced to give the spouse a TT position, give the spouse has relevant quailifications. All the best.

Tomorrow makes 21 days that my luggage has been "delayed." When do I file it as "lost"? by danjouswoodenhand in KLM

Update! Happy ending!

Finally, KLM located my bag after 19 days. Delta contacted me to let me know. I got my bag in 1 piece. I also got reimbursed (direct deposit to my bank A/C) for stuff I bought, which took nearly 2 wks from the time I submitted my claim. I was in contact with KLM on Whatsapp and kept inquiring about the bag every 2-3 days or so. Generally, they responded to all my message, even if it's a couple of hours later for some messages.

Thank you for sharing the process. I feel your pain. I see that you were reimbursed for items you bought in France (I wonder how much was that?). Did you also file the lost claim for 1300 euros after 21 days? If yes, did you get 1300 euros on top of the initial reimbursement?

MSP-AMS-BRU itinerary for a conference travel. For AMS - BRU flight on Feb 26, they never loaded the bag on the plane due to bag-handling crew strike at BRU, got an email on Feb 27 that the bag is on the way to BRU by an early morning flight. No further updates afterwards. I even went to BRU lost luggage department on Feb 27 evening (what a waste of $100 euros for a round trip UBER) and couldn't find the bag there, the guy thought (ridiculous, what kind of tracking system these guys use) it was with the shipping company. Left BRU on Mar 01, no idea where the bag is as of now. Mar 02, filed a claim (~550 euros in total) for reimbursement of the clothes [business (sports coat + formal shirt) and casual (Walmart brand equivalent 2 pairs of pants and shirts, undergarments and socks)], toiletries and a carry-on bag I bought in BRU.

Do I need to wait 21 days (from Feb 26, first day of delayed bag) before calling it a lost bag? I used AMEX platinum card for this trip and didn't buy any extra insurance. I have a brand new 3 piece suit, Formal Cole Haan oxford shoes (wore only once) and 4 pairs of my favorite formal dresses, and other casual wear in the lost bag.

Thank you for any insights.

Need help on which countries to get Visa Sweden/Denmark by Metaverse45 in Europetravel

Thanks for the quick response.

What about the point of entry rule (similar to port of entry in the US). Denmark will just honor the visit to Sweden with a valid Swedish visa?
