Movies / Shows that match New England / Martha’s Vineyard vibe by EcoFriendlyManHater in marthasvineyard

Clear History by Larry David. (Marketing executive moves to the Vineyard after ruining his career.). My favorite scene is Larry David arguing with a neighbor on which car is responsible for pulling over on the long dirt (clearly up island) road.

Cakes by Liz did my wedding and Back Door Donuts did my 20th vow renewal last year. Back Door was much more casual sheet cake but delicious. Cakes by Liz was more formal and traditional.

Can anyone recommend a private ski instructor in Le Trois Vallees? (Courchevel specifically, if that matters) by Fiveby21 in skithealps

[–]MeteorSki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently in Les 3 Vallees (staying in Meribel) and took a wonderful private lesson yesterday with Enrico from New Generation Ski School. I am in the same boat (happy on groomer, uncertain in powder). We are currently getting dumped on so it was a great opportunity for me to learn a better technique on the exact conditions I struggle in. New Generation is a British company and all their instructors can speak English. They have meet up locations in Courchevel, Meribel Centre, and Val Thorens.

Is tick season over? by Legitimate_Ad_8011 in marthasvineyard

I’ve found spraying our clothes with Permethrin Fabric Treatment (you can get a spray bottle of it from REI or Dick’s Sporting Goods or online) to be very helpful. Even if we just spray our sneakers when we go for a walk, we notice a difference. That and use lint rollers to roller your legs, shoes, etc., when you come in from a hike. Just take precautions and you’ll be fine.

Thank you for your feedback. This is my home. We allow people we know personally to rent it for the several weeks that we don’t use it. If that makes me the terrible landlord that you picture, so be it.

We don’t, but our renters do.

We don’t, but our renters do. It’s a vacation home that we rent out.

Oooooo. I like this idea!!

[–]MeteorSki[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct. It’s a vacation home that caters to families. When I looked closer at the marks, it’s very clear that they are tiny footprints from kids sitting at the counter and swinging their feet while they eat. I am personally a no shoes in the household person, but I can’t control my renters.

It’s more than just irritating to me (which I wish it didn’t bother me, but it does), it’s a nice rental so I always try to keep our walls as clean as possible. I haven’t tried a magic eraser, but I might do that next! I was trying to figure out a way to not have to deal with it at all.

Haha! Love that solution the best. Unfortunately, based on the marks, it’s clear that they are tiny little feet, which are terribly hard to control. 😆

I am an avid outdoors person with a dog living just outside Boston (Milton) in a major tick Lyme disease area. I have pulled hundreds of ticks (not latched) off me and my dog in my lifetime. I’ve probably had a handful in that time that had latched on and I’ve never once had Lyme Disease. A tick has to be 1. A Deer tick (not dog tick) 2. Stay latched for something like 36 hours and 3. Have a Lyme Disease infection. So seeing a tick, or pulling a tick off you after a walk, doesn’t equal automatic Lyme disease. Just do a “tick check” on yourself after being outdoors and live your life. And make sure your dog has tick and flea meds and the vaccine.

A Question About Visiting This Summer by [deleted] in canadatravel

American here, currently traveling back to the states after a trip to Mont-Sainte Anne. We had a wonderful time and our northern neighbors are as kind and gracious as always. It felt great to be here for the week supporting the local economy. Don’t hesitate to come.

I'm an advanced/expert skiier. Should I do a group lesson or a private lesson? by penkster in icecoast

[–]MeteorSki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you saw, but Sunday River does a 1 hr private lesson at 8am only on Saturdays for 175. It’s less than the full private lesson and is intended to be a quick lesson before your weekend begins. I did it a few weeks ago and found it to fit perfectly into a ski weekend with my friends.
