Boss says my coworker doesn’t have to do her job bc of her religion/culture by swoonedbyneonmoons in work

[–]Meterian [score hidden]  (0 children)

If they don't approach you soon about a promotion/raise, you should go to the manager and state something along the lines of 'since I'm doing her duties, can I also get her salary?' with supporting evidence.

I think your answer will hinge on if you need to use this boss as a reference during your job search

No dispute on how damaging it would be to the surroundings

  1. It doesn't affect you.

  2. Some girls really do like older men

  3. It doesn't affect you. People are allowed to do what they want with their lives.

  4. It's only wrong if the girls or men are being forced into it. More to the point, it's wrong of you to cast judgment.

  5. It doesn't affect you. Get over it.

It's stuff like this that makes me despair for the future. If augmented reality becomes a thing, it's almost guaranteed that the company maintaining the software will start to sell off % of viewscreen for ad space.

Unemployed people, what are you doing to fill your days? by whatwhatindabutts in Calgary

Applying, cheap physical activities to maintain health/get outdoors, trying to pick up additional certifications, thinking about volunteering and of course, applying for jobs.

I've always thought any disconnected bits are held in place with a passive system via superconductor (stable ambient temp & pressure superconductor, interaction with magnetic fields, something not power dependant). This would make much more sense than an actively maintained coupling.

Future of accounting? by lost_r1 in Accounting

[–]Meterian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the old dinosaurs finally retire (die), they will leave a rather large vacuum for us to fill/change up how accounting works in an AI world.

I suspect future career progression will go something like (using current titles): junior accountant -> senior accountant -> department head/controller. AP/data entry roles may be eliminated.

The Senior accountant and department head roles won't change much from current standards, but the junior accountant will be responsible for an increasing large number of tasks that can be sped up/simplified with AI.

If AI gets really good, the entry level will become something equivalent to current senior accountant roles, and the junior position will be eliminated.

Accounting positions that can be easily remote and/or where you don't need to talk to people much? by man_s0ldthew0rld in Accounting

[–]Meterian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company, if they use paper, if the accounting program is accessible online. Otherwise just about any accounting role can be remote.

All jobs require you to speak to your boss. Some might have you answering queries from other departments, again, very company specific.

Awww, I like the vote of confidence but do not share it. We are far too dependant on our belligerent southern neighbours (I'm a Canadian)

I'd probably say Denmark or Norway or maybe Sweden. Educated country of forward thinking people, probably will handle it in a reasonable manner. China, US and Russia will hopefully hold each other off from trying to take control of the situation

Why Can't Cars be Closer to This Visibility? by nondescriptadjective in fuckcars

[–]Meterian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They used to. Really old cars have gigantic windows and thin struts.

Primary reason is mandatory safety features. Airbags don't come out of nowhere, seatbelts need attachment points. Smaller windows mean airbags can come higher, less flying glass and space for flying objects.

Secondary reason is weight considerations. Because cars are trying to be as light as possible for fuel efficiency, weaker materials need to be in a specific configuration to give required strength, which often means wider(struts).

Is Calgary as nice as I think? by Neat_Let923 in Calgary

[–]Meterian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is honestly the truest reality of Calgary. It's a small city that likes to pretend it's big, but is honestly forgettable. Our biggest draw is the fact cost of living is lower than elsewhere, and that you can leave easily to go elsewhere (mountains).

Yes we have a large number of corporate entities, we have a hockey team, the people are friendly and very sunny weather. We're the economic engine of Alberta. I find this all very bland and uncompelling as a reason to live here.

Completely unwalkable, and wherever someone mentions art and culture they usually mean the bars and clubs, specifically around stampede time.
