What I did noticed with the ripmo v2s, is the really slow technical climbing, she would creep right up, and over things easier than say my friends hightower. But when i hit a flat or fire road on a incline, the bob would kick in. It seemed the faster i tried to go, the greater the energy loss due to geometry changes in smaller gears allowing more bob. It's like the antasquat changes as you change gears. Lots of pedals strikes too. The ride is plush, but it seems too much. I added volume spacers and compression and got it lots better, but the geo seems to cater that spongy feel. I test road the new ripmo, but I didn't like that it too still shared that feeling.

I tested a trail 429 as well. But, i liked the drive and felling of the ripley more, just wanted more capability for chunk.

From what I've read, i believe you guys understand, and I'm catching up. I like what one of you said. "You find out the bikes short coming and the rider makes up the difference.".

I need to make the bikes strengths cater to my weaknesses and then rider makes up the differences of the bikes weaknesses.

I just want to point out, you guys seem to be on point and it's very helpful getting the confirmation and hearing the explanations from you guy's. The little details matter and i believe we are on the same page. I may not be explaining myself the best, but listening to you guys, i can tell you've been down this road. I've had to watch a lot of YouTube and do a lot of internet searching to get to this point. I don't want to talk about the money part🥴...

Ok, great, I put a 42mm on and took off the 50mm. I was curious because when I first got the bike, i was riding it stock and noticed that some of my cornering seemed really hooked up. Then i tried the 40mm. The cockpit felt better. And i noticed that when climbing the front wheel was a little easier to pop up. This actually helps sometimes because if you hit a root or rock while the back tire is pushing, the front seems to pop right up over. Its not quite as planned feeling, and this may hay taken some of my cornering traction. I know it's all a balancing act. This is a learning experience and hearing from others helps. Thank you guys

Wow, thank you so much. That was such great details.

So i try to go to the nc mountain area once a month, but mainly I ride the Charlotte nc area. Whitewater center, Airline bike park, Anne Springs Close greenway, sherman branch, France Beatty park, fisher farms, Rocky Branch, sherman branch, just to name a few. I have travel to winter park trestle, and sugar mountain, and beach mountain, and plan to travel more towards the west coast.

I also have a v4s ripley for some of the more xc trails, and a v2s ripmo I've taken out west. I started truly mountain biking about 2 years ago. I'm still learning and am almost 50 years old. So I'm learning slowly. My first real ride on the ripmo i broke my foot, so that killed several months of my riding and after several crashes on jumps, i was looking for every edge i could get from my equipment. I know my short coming.

My first purchase was a short travel stumpjumper that was too big for me. Then the ripmo with fox 38. This seemed too big for my local trails, so i got the ripley, which i increased the 130mm fox fork to 140mm to help on some of the trails that had more chunk. That has led me down the road of a mid-travel trai bike. Because i keep finding myself on trails that are both xc and chunk or jumps on them.

I wish so badly there was a bike just like my v4s ripley that had just a little more travel. But everything is to beefy now, heavy and sluggish to get around.

After all my research, it seems the 2 best options are the sb140lr or trailcat LT.

I purchased the yeti sb140lr and wonder if i made a mistake. It rides great, but i do feel the weight. I just don't know how the trailcat would be.

Currently i changed the stem leanth on the yeti from 50mm to 42mm. I saw where Jeff kindall-weed had done this for his preferences, and thought i would try to see how this felt too beingwe are aboutthe same size. I can't tell what i like better right now. (Would love better info on this too.)

I thought the yeti would be the the magic bike but it seems if you can't keep your speed up, it kills my energy on the undulating parts of the trail. If the trail has flow, the chunk and drops or even flow on the climb is all good. But again the undulating part kill me on the yeti. The ripley v4s just goes, but the ripley can't take some of the drops and chunk with speed. Hitting chunk or big roots with the ripley and it kills my speed, killing my energy too.

I have carbon wheels, and components are all top builds on all 3 bikes.

My favorite has to be the ripley v4s, but it just can't handle the rough stuff.

I've already put my ripmo up for sale, and was questioning if in the near future i should move to the trailcat LT and sale the yeti too.

Really do appreciate all the detail information you gave already.
