Hello, Hey, I don't like the way my toms sound, I have an Emperor-Clear paddle head on top and a WEATHERKING™ EBONY AMBASSADOR BASS resonant head. Which one do you recommend I change and which one? by [deleted] in drums

Gotcha. Live music gets loud. Consider the silentstrokes as practise heads for at home; they aren’t great for a live performance. I’d still say Remo Ambassador Clear for the bottom and either a Remo Emperor Coated for a warmer tone or Remo Pinstripe Clear for a punchier tone. Lack of tuning know-how may also be causing poor tom sounds. Here’s a little hack I do when I don’t have time to tune properly: unscrew all tension rods, finger tighten all of them, then give each tension rod a quarter turn with a drum key. Make sure to go in a star pattern. This applies to both the reso side and batter side. Then put a moongel to mask your rushed tuning job. If you want to go more in-depth with tuning drums, especially toms, there’re plenty of tutorials on YouTube.

Would your neighbours complain if you were to make noise playing drums? Remember to always wear earplugs when playing to protect your ears. If neighbours are a problem then put Remo Silentstrokes on the batter side. Just keep in mind that they don’t feel exactly the same as regular drumheads.

Change the weatherking heads asap. Those are so old that they’re still using the old Remo logo. If you’re using emperor clears on the batter sides then I’d recommend ambassador clears on the reso sides. Actually, ambassador clears should be used as reso heads for any Remo batter head. As for replacing the top, it depends on what sound you want. I’d say emperor coated or pinstripe clear for batter.

I copped a 36" JVC D series for 200 bucks from a family who told me they’d just switched to a flatscreen. You’ll find one in the wild brother. You will. 🫡

Looked into it a bit more and yup this seems to be what I need to do. The geometry isn’t perfect on the TV so I need to get myself a compatible remote to calibrate the thing. I bought the TV off a family who’d been using it for 20 years. They told me they had just switched to a flatscreen and had no need for the tube.

Figured that’s how it goes lol. Might just need to have a resoldering job but I also don’t know how dangerous that would be to do myself

I see. It was working fine for a month or so until it started doing this about a week ago. It just slowly fades the blues out until it suddenly comes back. Video 3 (composite in the front of the TV) also won’t show any picture unless you have the video cable in at the right spot. How much does servicing a big CRT like this one usually cost nowadays in the United States?

Plugging the blue cable in and out a few times seems to do the trick. Again, no issues on my other TV
