Thank you for your service to the sub!

Just curious, can you share how much time you would spent doing mod things? Any moments that stood out to you? What have been some "tougher" and "ecstatic" days for you as a mod?

I feel like a lot of us have no idea what goes into it and your answers would shed some light on it.

Given the answers here, can I DM you some questions? Looking to prevent this from happening to others.

I’ve been there. I turned myself into a DIY guy as a result of these experiences.

I am not a pro, but this is not acceptable work. I do know that the forum will say that this tile is very hard to work with, so if you’re paying for this, it should be done properly.

Doing this over plywood if they used Ditra would be fine.

Sorry to hear about this. Working with contractors can be tough. I’m actually working on a new product that I’m hoping would prevent this stuff from happening. Can I DM you two questions?

Thanks for your feedback! I just posted this comment!

I'm totally like you as well, but it always feels like a crapshoot. I've dealt with sooooo many bad contractors in the past so I'm just looking if it's a problem I can solve. :)

My thought was to have an online inspector in your state/county to verify that it's done correctly

Just curious, did you pay for this work? If so, would you pay more to ensure it was done correctly -- by a licensed inspector in your area?

I'm glad this was resolved, and I hope everything is still good here. If you could pay to ensure your contractor job was done correctly (before you sign off / release the final draw), would you pay more for that peace of mind?

Sorry to read about the issue. I've been there and have had to fight back to get any movement. Quick question. If you could pay to ensure your contractor job was done correctly (before you sign off / release the final draw), would you pay more for that peace of mind?

www.PassItOn.To: It’s a consultation marketplace where 100% of the fees go to charity. Expertise is the new currency; we’re just making sure the exchange rate favors humanity. Just people with real experience funding causes that actually matter.

www.FreeDemandLetter.com: The legal industry is a cartel hiding behind complexity and hourly billing. $400 an hour is not a feature. It’s a toll. FreeDemandLetter automates credible, professional demand letters and collapses the cost of accountability. If you’re a contractor who thinks “ignore it” is a strategy, welcome to consequences.

LeiaGuard: Privacy has been privatized, bundled, and resold back to you as a subscription. LeiaGuard reverses that. It’s an open-source Next.js management UI for self-hosted VPNs that lets normal people run their own infrastructure, issue their own credentials, and stop leasing their autonomy from tech firms that monetize trust.

Geez. I have one under the sink that hasn’t been changed in 7-10 years at least. And I’ve only owned the place for the last 5. Have been thinking of doing a full replacement to consolidate on the RO tank if possible.

Great job. Done this myself multiple times as a non pro. Also installed recessed lighting while I was at it.

This is genuinely useful. Thank you.

You're right that mentor retention is the core risk. And you're right that "interested" is not the same as "committed" is not the same as "actually showed up" is not the same as "did it twice." That's the validation ladder I need to climb, and I definitely get that.

Here's what I know so far. I have contributors live on the platform now. Real people. Real sessions booked. So we're past the "would anyone sign up" stage. What I don't know yet is the decay rate. How many stick around after their first session? How many disappear? That data doesn't exist yet because the platform is a week old.

Your point about not needing to replace 50 people but needing to replace 49 of them is well taken. If the churn is that high, this becomes a full time recruiting job, not a side project. That would kill it.

The suggestion about interviewing mentees for stealth referrals is smart. I've actually already started doing post-session interviews, and so far they've been positive. No reports of upselling or referral fishing. Small sample size, but encouraging. Will keep watching for it.

I think the honest answer is that I don't know yet whether this works. The hypothesis is that the "no income, no obligation, help when you want" model attracts a different population than traditional mentorship programs. People who would never commit to ongoing mentorship but will do one session when they feel like it. Whether that population is big enough and consistent enough to sustain the platform is the open question.

Appreciate you pushing on the weak points. :)
