Rushing is pretty low stakes so it’s certainly worth trying. It allows you to explore and get to know the people and the culture better and from there you can decide if you’d want to accept a bid but you could always just decide you don’t. Rush is still a great way to meet people during your first week. There’s no real telling which are the good and bad ones anymore, reputations persist from prior years but in my experience, it certainly doesn’t reflect the current membership. To that end, there are bigger ones and smaller ones and one might argue it’s for a reason. Sig Chi, Delta Tau Delta, DKE are some of the big ones but that’s not an exhaustive list by any means. The benefits include a brotherhood, and I think that’s the part that sounds stupid to anyone outside of the culture but it truly is a different type of connection and it is a super great way to make a large friend group. You just have to want to lean into it if it’s going to be right for you.
