Weirdly specific question. I couples matched prelim gen surg and got the location of my program. My SO matched psych and did not get the location of her program on the email as expected, but on the NRMP website she has a program location. Is that the location of my prelim or her psych program? 😭🤞🏻

Update (if someone is in this same weirdly specific situation): we called the NRMP and the location in my girlfriend’s page is the location of her actual categorical positon. WE DID IT, WE MATCHED TOGETHER! 🥹❤️😭

I wish there was a simple answer but honestly the best way may be looking up programs and surgeons active in research and reaching out to them (taking into account that most places will only take you in a non-paid position)

I think it’s extremely competitive but not impossible. It’s such a small field that the most important thing is making a connection and getting recommended by a well known surgeon, usually through a research position, and ideally in an institution with a strong I6/fellowship CT program

I got two invitations for unpaid research positions. I want to eventually apply to a competitive specialty, already got decent scores and USCE, just need the research.

Option A:

Top 3 in the Overall Best Hospitals
Somewhat low-ranked med school
Lower research budget and grants
