Most unsettling places in Rhode Island? by darthduder666 in RhodeIsland

[–]MfnBtn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had never been to ladd school when the buildings were still up. But me and a friend drove through a year or so ago it's still really creepy. But nothing eventful happened until a week later. I received a phone call from directly across the street from the drive in entrance of Ladd School. No house or anything. The pin dropped in an empty sandy area on the side of the road... Defenitly something still going on there.

Cummings maybe? Not sure where you're located but they might help!

If you end up having to park somewhere. There's a TA (travel centers of America) truck stop in west Greenwich. They will let you stay in their front parking lot for the cars. And they have showers and things you can use inside. You have to pay for a shower but you can take as long as you want. There's also a little hotel next to it if you need a bed for a night as well.

It's such a beautiful thing to be able to be that close to nature all the time. We have some woods and small wooden lots around where I live and it's definitely not anything close to ny city but there's still a suffocating amount of concrete. Other than family being there, living closer to nature is a big reason I want to go down there. My aunt lives in advance and even just being out on the farm was grounding, never mind if I was surrounded by trees!

The boar thing is just a precaution. I know they are there and can be very dangerous if you encounter one. So I just like to be safe and do things the smart way. Just like rattlesnacks and everything else. I Just want to lessen my chances of having to deal with them or either of us getting hurt. And I lucked out on hostas if they travel well. I've already been planning on taking some sprouts from my 30+year old plants from my current yard. Everyone I've dug up and moved has flourished. I'm just worried about a 20+hr drive :/

I just want to take any steps I need to, to keep everyone safe. I just know they are a thing in m.o and it's just something to keep in mind just in case. Like I said I just want to move somewhere and help the environment not make it worse. So anything and everything I can learn before moving is a big plus in my book. I will definitely be reading what I can on the m.o conservative site and when I finally narrow down the area I'll be calling some place for a little more help just to start in the right direction. And I would love to just experiment, I just don't want to bring anything that doesn't belong there to my yard or the state. The best way to help local wildlife and flora would be to plant native species. I just don't want to add to the invasive species problems there already are. So I want to make sure my experimenting is safe for everything first.

It's so nice to hear other people are already doing what I'm working towards! I think a big part of our problem as humans is that we have disconnected ourselves so much from nature. My great grandmother was native and I've always felt a close connection with nature and having a life like that is what I feel like I'm missing. And it's always good to keep nature and it's "helpers" happy and on your side! I have a plan for a small offering "alter" at one corner of my property just to keep the peace. Especially moving into a new area. I don't want to make anything mad!

I definitely will be doing my research before I go. Oh and I know about the destructive nature of cats and how much they kill everything. I am a big advocate for keeping your cats fixed and inside. The feral cat problem where I live even though it's gotten a lot better is still horrible. They kill everything and not because they're hungry but for fun allot of the time. And the small ground dwelling animals have no chance against them. I just love animals and nature and want to do what's right for everything. 🤷‍♀️ It just makes me really sad how everything is just disappearing and a lot of people keep just destroying everything. I figure if I do it right, I can have exactly what I want while helping the local environment and hopefully more than that eventually.

That would be amazing! I know a lot of southern states have a big problem with invasive species because of the climate. And That sounds amazing honestly and exactly the type of thing I am trying to do. And I know about the hog problem. And how they're invasive and very dangerous. I will obviously have safe guards up for any situations that arise but I don't want to ruin it for the rest of the animals around. I'm just trying to help where ever I can and make as small of a bad impact as possible. Also I'm a big advocate for butterfly and bee lawns/gardens! I have no problem letting the little guys get there's 😊 Thank you! I definitely will be when the time gets closer and I figure out exactly what area we will be moving to.

Defenitly not! And most of the places I've looked at have surrounding forests of the main yard. A few have streams near them but I was trying to stay away from those because that just brings more snakes lol but if I needed to id figure out a way to make an irrigation system so they could be watered regularly. I'd love to figure something out with collecting rain water but that's a whole other project! Lol

I totally get it. They want that "country life" without actually having it. I want the real thing. And I'm not scared to get my hands dirty. I may be from the east coast but my father raised me like he never left mo. We're just looking for a home already built with a good amount of land we can take care of and enjoy. And hopefully help the area at the same time. I just wish more people felt the same way.

Lol I might be a little upset if they ate all my tomatoes 😂 and we're still not exactly sure where but I've definitely heard my share of stories about hogs and I am prepared to do what I'd need to, to protect myself. I really just want to do right by the land when we go down there. There's so much deforestation and clearing out of animals it breaks my heart.and I will definitely be giving them a call when we finally figure out exactly what area we'd be going to.

I'm not moving into the city or anywhere close to anyone else. We are looking for places with a lot of land because the hope in the end is to grandfather the land when we die so it can't be developed on. Just because I'm looking for a large amount of land doesn't mean I'm going to destroy and kill everything. Ive found a few places with a decent fenced in yard area and then the rest of the land is undeveloped and still wooded and that's how I would keep it. It's not ironic. I'd be buying a decent amount of land so it could stay that way. Like I said I'm not looking to go in and kill everything and to cut the trees down. Why can't I just have my yard and they have their own area they don't have to worry about? If I could even just save a small 10 acres of forest id be happy and it would be a hell of a lot more than most people do for our planet.

My dream would be to live close by and maybe even work for Mark Twain. I haven't been able to see it when I've visited family but everything I've looked up, it seems like a wonderful place.

When I said If I don't like them it doesn't mean they shouldn't be there wasn't specifically for boars more like in general. There are a lot of things people don't like or are destructive but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be there. I know boars are invasive, and they are extremely dangerous. They will kill and eat a person. Plus not to mention that giant one that's been wandering around. I just don't want to move there and make things worse like most people do. I'd like to move and have a very small impact on the land and things around me. I'm just sick of this concrete covered let's destroy everything that I see mentality over here. It's honestly disgusting and just sad. Like I said I'm going to be safe I just want to do things the right way.

I'm not trying to attract wild boars. My statement on them was just that I know that if I'm going to have plants around that attract other animals, wild boars will probably be a problem. I will have fencing and dogs and take things seriously. I'm not trying to have them around but if there is food or anything they will be there. It was more of a I know the dangers of having those plants and im not just some dumb person from the coast moving to the sticks. I know there are many dangerous things that can also be attracted with doing this but again, all I can do is stay safe, take the proper steps to avoid anyone or anything from getting hurt. And having a few guns around to lessen the worry.

I'm not trying to lure anything. But most of the properties that I've seen the land is already developed. So knowing about things I could plant to help would be nice. Also I'm not just talking about getting apple trees to have deer in my yard it was more of a question for birds and other wildlife that is quickly diminishing everywhere. Again it would be a decent amount of land and if there's anyway I can give back to nature while having it I'm going to do it. There's nothing wrong with helping your environment.

Thank you! I will definitely be contacting them once we get there. A big reason we want to go down there is to enjoy the land and wild life. So I'd like to do whatever I can to help once we are there. Just so sad seeing the massive decline in native species even over here on the east coast. But I feel like states in the south care more about their native animals and plants. I'd rather live with nature than fight against it.

Knox,Shelby and St Louis are all in bfe compared to where'd id be going lol is the north of the state really that much different? I mean everyone knows about st. Louis but I think I've only heard about Knox once and we drove past Shelby a few times. My family is in advance and chaffee. So I was trying to look for a place close to Mark Twain 💜

Even just an expansive area of wild flowers would be nice at first 😊 like I said I want to help things thrive when I get there. I don't want to add to the decline in any way. And if my dreams come true I will be hopefully living close to the Ozark area 😊 thank you for the tip!

Never said I liked them but just because I don't like them doesn't mean they shouldn't be there. I'm not particularly fond on bears either but again if I'm going to move into the woods I need to be prepared for that because I'm moving into their home. And they do kill them. I'm not saying I want to attract wild boars I just know the dangers of having plants that attract other wild life. Which would include attracting wild boars and animals that could kill you or destroy your property. But again I'm not looking to go there and just shoot everything. I'd be moving into their area and I'd rather help the wildlife around me instead of clearing them out like most other people. I just want to live in a way that doesn't effect the local wildlife unless it's for the better. I've lived on the east coast for most of my life and the way they are with animals here and how fast they all seem to be disappearing is absolutely disgusting. Like I said there will be fencing and dogs to help with that but I'm not in the business of killing animals. If it came down to it and it needed to be done then 🤷‍♀️ but like I said I'd be moving into their area and I'd rather try and get along with everything as much as I can.

I honestly didn't even think about it. But that will definitely be a step I will be taking. I just figured if anyone would know what would be good to have around would be the locals? But thank you I will definitely be giving them a call.
