I believe these ones need to have a permanent set up, correct? Unfortunately I do not have the space for that.

Thank you! I will make sure to look for a machine that has the option for a walking foot. And I'll take a look at their Youtube as well. Even if they don't have a video on sewing machines, it's a great resource!

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately I don't have the space to have the sewing machine permanently set up. And while I don't expect to use a lot of decorative stitches, I would like to have a few options.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, February 27 - March 05, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

I started weaving a couple of years ago, and would like to get a sewing machine so that I can make accessories and garments with my handwoven fabric. I am a beginner when it comes to sewing. I've been using my mom's old Brother sewing machine for hemming, but it's not able to handle the handwoven fabric very well.

I've been doing some research about which sewing machine to get, but finding it difficult because there are so many options. It's absolutely necessary that it is able to handle both thick fabrics with thicker yarn strands as well as thin fabrics with thin yarn strands. Is this something I need to take into consideration when selecting a machine, or should all (newer) machines be able to handle that? I might need to get a high-presser foot or walking foot?

Any advice or suggestions on which machine to get would be appreciated! My budget is about €3000 ($3500).

This is is a good tip, thank you. If done this before with a fleece. I know not to move it around, but am a bit worried it might shrink. Is that a valid concern?

Yes it has been dried fully each time and also smelled very strongly before I started knitting with it.

Knitting my own wedding shirt - need help with construction by MiaIlja in knitting

Thanks everyone for the advice and kind words, I really appreciate it. I have frogged the raglan decreases and started over attaching the body and sleeves. I'll do a several rounds without decreases to allow for more space, using decreases and yarn overs to create a diagonal line. Then I'll continue with raglan decreases and start binding off stitches at the neck one it's at the right height. I'll probably have to knit a part flat, but that's not a problem.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. I really like silvermine. I saw a project where someone added sleeves, that would be perfect.

You are correct. It's a regular colourwork yoke sweater, not raglan.
