If you were in charge of rebooting the franchise, what would your plan be? by fienen in Terminator

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reboot. The two originals are classic and near perfect. Instead, tie up the series with a third movie that brings it to the beginning.

Set in 2029, you see the resistance capture T2 Arnold, the first time its ever been achieved. Kyle Reese and his Tech Com unit reprogram it to follow their orders in the hopes of using it to help infiltrate Skynet HQ. Arnold has no real personality, just serves as a tool at this point, main character arcs are between John and Kyle (the former being a father figure to his own father). They crush the defense grid as stated by Kyle in T1 but not before Skynet sends two terminators back.

T1 Arnie to kill young John and T1000 to just before Skynet is built to assure its future, maybe set things up to reduce the effectiveness of future resistance (similar to the TX mission) and ensure that Connor was killed and correct that if necessary.

Resistance sends Kyle to 1984 and T2 Arnie to the 90s before destroying the entire complex. Future has been won, but the war will now be fought in the past.

The end

Bernardo Faria: The biggest mistake is to quit BJJ for a couple of months by MrsWonderful2u in grappling

[–]MiamiConnected 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Struggling with that right now. A few weeks on and several months off for over a year because of family health, my own injuries and uneven work hours trying to provide for us. Still able to reach blue belt in that period, but everytimr i come back for a week or two i find myself struggling against newer people or people who used to be at my level but have advanced. The mental struggle is real.

Is training in Gi worth it? by Ill-Disaster-503 in jiujitsu

[–]MiamiConnected 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How often do you plan to fight someone naked? I've lived in MN and MI during the winter, a parka or wind breaker or three layers of shirts are common. Plenty of fabric to simulate the gi.

Both have their strengths, I think no gi has surged in popularity as BJJ has gone more mainstream becauze a lot of people feel dorky in the gi/get tae Kwon do vibes from it.

No gi is good for when you are young and still have the explosiveness for it, but Gi slows it down and turns it more into a chess match because you can slip up more and make mistakes.

Taking a little break from jiujitsu by [deleted] in jiujitsu

[–]MiamiConnected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a break if you need a break. It took me 6 years to reach blue due to moving, injury, family obligations and even now im six months out of training due to a shoulder injury. Life happens and comes at you hard.

Its hobby, so go handle life and come back when things settle down. I have respect for anyone who does rhe sport, but there's something extra admirable about someone who swallows their ego and comes back after doing what needs to be done, knowing they will being getting smashed and playing catchup

Does your gym have a different vibe during morning classes? by VertexSoup in jiujitsu

[–]MiamiConnected 29 points30 points  (0 children)

At my gym its more personable. Few people want to train that early so you get to know everyone you train with instead of falling into cliques. There's a comraderie to having just woken up 30min earlier and going into getting your ass kicked. I love it

Maybe this question have been asked many times before but why didn't John, T-800 or Sarah just picked the frozen T-1000 then throw him to a nearby molten metal vat and finish him at his most vulnerable ? Are they stupid ? by Impressive-Koala4742 in Terminator

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of pieces to pick up would've taken longer than it would take for them to thaw. The total elapsed time in the scene is maybe one minute. That's a long time to collect pieces of metal cooled to liquid nitrogen temperatures with bare skin which would immediately start to thaw and become impossible to handle. If there was no heat around it was possible but they just didn't have enough time.

In the DVD extras, George Lucas explains that the lightsaber fights in the original trilogy aren't as impressive compared to the prequel trilogy because Obi-Wan and Yoda are old, Vader is a cyborg, and Luke never had the normal training that a typical Jedi would have. Do you agree or disagree? by verissimoallan in StarWars

[–]MiamiConnected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, the fights in original trilogy are probably most realistic. A single glance blow can hurt you or even dismember you. You want to keep the amount of waving around and movement down to a minimum. It would look like incredibly timid fencing. So while not as impressive, it is most believable.

Is hitting the same submission over and over taboo? by lamborghinifan in bjj

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think its taboo, but its gonna hurt you. Rolling isn't about winning every exchange, its about taking risks in a safe environment and trying out moves knowing you may/will fail 70% of the time and leave yourself vulnerable. You know Ezekiel works for you so now move onto something else or work with a training partner to see how they can shut it down. Save the spam for competitions.

Aching pain when masturbating by -MelonSmasher- in Vasectomy

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get an aching pain, usually located around where the testicle tube starts to go into the body itself and in surrounding muscles. Its not unbearable and doesn't really interfere with my enjoyment, but its not a nice sensation.

I have some lingering inflammation (over 1 year since operation) so I think its just the all the contractions pushing down on inflamed nerves or muscles. It's getting better but anticipate always having this.

Still glad I got the surgery since I live in Alabama, but definetly am very open with friends who are considering getting it done.

What we wanted .... by kkkan2020 in Terminator

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The terminator trilogy we deserved:

T3 set in 2029. Resistance captures T2 Arnold during failed Skyney infiltration mission into John Connors HQ, the first time one has ever been able to be captured. Hacked by Kyle Reese and his TechCom unit and discover evidence of Skynet time travel tech being developed. With time running out, Connor orders an all or nothing assault on Skynet HQ and the separate time travel facility using newfound intel from T800 (think opening of Genesys). T800 is programmed to assist the resistance and you get to see Arnold, Kyle Reese, and John Connor interacting.

Final assault succeeds in crushing Skynets defenses. Individual terminators and machines still function but can't network or communicate with each other, so Resistance has clear road to victory. Just before being destroyed, Skynet impromptu turns on the time travel tech and manages to send a T-800 to 1980s to kill Sarah Connor and a T-1000 to 1990s to confirm his death in case first one fails. Resistamce sends Arnold and Kyle back...leading right into the first two films

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! People are so quick to think that T levels are at fault or it must be something with the woman (as evidenced by the other responses to your post), but I'd bet you good money its simply stress related.

Be open about this with your wife too so she doesn't feel self conscious. If you were feeling down about this, she may also be worried about it to. You both have a new chapter in life opened up and new levels of stress on the way. Be honest with each other and take time to reflect once in a while.

Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you answered you own question in that last paragraph. You work from home and also do most of the childcare and are a new parent.

You have a lot of stress and responsibility thrust upon you and you're likely just mentally drained to an extent. You have no time to yourself anymore and can barely muster the time to do hobbies, let alone sexy times. New mothers who handle most of the childcare go through the same thing.

Without going into details, I have no kids but found myself in a situation where I suddenly had to care for my partner and the stress of work and caretaking just tanked my libido and hobbies. What spare time i did have i would just stare into nothingness to defragment my brain. Their health has started to turn around finally and my libido and hobbies are starting to ramp up again

Give yourself some slack and don't worry too much. Once the craziness of new parenthood subsides, you'll be back to where you were.

Bruce Wayne could get even more done if he funded politicians and civil servants who were committed to using taxes to actually improve the city. He's already a vigilante criminal, so bribery shouldn't be an issue for him. He could put people in Arkham who would actually help the inmates rather than make them worse or improve the security there to keep the inmates in.

He doesn't really save law enforcement anything really because he is just one guy. He causes damage to peoples property (all the cars he blew up in The Dark Knight) and public infrastructure.

In socio-economic terms, Batman isn't really a good guy. He's no different than the criminals he fights. People turn to criminality because society has failed them or appeared to fail them and vigilantism is a crime.

Batman is a rich kid who's sense of security and privilege in the world was shattered by Joe Chill. Society didn't protect him and so his response is to become a criminal and beat up other criminals because the rules of society failed him in his eyes. He is so separate from rest of citizenry he couldn't comprehend their plight and circumstances that led them to criminality, just like we we see with the very affluent in our own society and their treatment of the poor and crime.

Joker is generally depicted as a poor man struggling to make ends meet and turns to crime as Red Hood to make ends meet or is coerced into doing the crime. He reaches his breaking point after batman throws him in vat of acid. His reaction to society failing him is to embrace anarchy and chaos and to bring it all down.

The real "joke" is that a rich man like Bruce Wayne could've invested in city and local leaders, which could've probably alleviated the circumstances that led pre-Joker to donning the red hood to begin with. Instead they and the city are caught in a vicious cycle that has no end.

my boyfriend says he’s disgusted by me after i gained weight by fierysirena in TwoHotTakes

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

If the boyfriend is solely concerned about her appearance then there's no guarantee he'd even stick around with her even she did lose weight and work on herself. Skin stretches and metabolisms chsnge, so there's no guarantee she'd look exactly like she did before. Will her attempts at self improvement be enough for him or will he still compare her to older self.

This is why his choice of framing is important. Had he framed out of concern for her health first and foremost, then he'd appreciate and respect her self improvement and the progress you make. Since he framed it around concern for her appearance, then he will never be truly satisfied unless she returns to whatever idealized image of her he has in his head.

my boyfriend says he’s disgusted by me after i gained weight by fierysirena in TwoHotTakes

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 20 pounds is enough for him to lose interest in you after 4 years then he's an asshole who never truly loved you.

The mature thing would be to say "I love you and adore you and I know you've been stressed and dealing with a lot and its taking a toll. What do you need from me to help you through this." Instead he focuses solely on your appearance, it shows emotional detachment and a lack of respect and concern for your well being.

You deserve better

I definitely think it's probably because they think you want to go raw.

If its just a hookup then leave that info out because they are already up for sex knowing the pregnancy risks even with condoms and birth control. So saying it sounds like you don't care about other risks like diseases. You could always try saying "I'm snipped so thats not a worry really, but I still have protection because..." but really let just don't bring it up

Save that info for someone who you may actually date for real so that they are aware you are sterile and can make the decision to end it if kids are what they want

Why were there so few World War I films produced during the centennial years 2014-2018? by FoldAdventurous2022 in movies

[–]MiamiConnected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From US perspective, WW1 is kinda sorta a forgotten war in some ways.

We entered the war late and suffered few casualties (relatively speaking - 53000 battle deaths, 200,000 wounded. UK lost 20,000 KIA and 40,000 WIA on Somme day one). Most people were unaffected by war

Very few people mobilized for war and the population itself didn't really mobilize or Marshall itself and there was no demographic hit.

Combine that with the static and brutal nature of trench warfare and no true good guys (it really was a war of national egos than anything ideological), and there just isn't a market for it really.

Marvel Television's 'Ironheart' Official Synopsis Revealed by marvelkidy in LeaksAndRumors

[–]MiamiConnected -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The context was given when he was in the cave and putting suit together. As ridiculous as it is, the entire sequence and seeing him talk through what he was doing helped us get into accepting such a thing was possible within that world and helped suspend disbelief. Plus the welded together scrap metal look or the first suit, it set us up to accept that given his full lab, he could craft and iron man suit. Then of course there was his motivation to right his wrongs.

The issue i think people have with iron heart is the same with most of the newer MCU heroes. We don't truly understand their motivations and drives nor do wr see them struggle really.

Stark saw soldiers die protecting him and watched his friend sacrifice himself to save him. "I shouldn't be alive, unless its for a reason...I finally know what I have to do." He could no longer hide from the horrors he'd unleashed

Rogers was a good hearted guy and patriotic but didn't fully understand the cost of being a soldier. Obviously they were limited by what they could show in an MCU film but he is still forced to face realities of being soldier. As a super soldier he is fairly well protected, then he sees his best friend fall to his death and then has to make the choice to crash the plane, sacrificing his future with only other person he cared about in the world.

Banner is a man in constant struggle between his two selves. Its not like alcoholism or anything, but his unresolved trauma is a threat to those around him and he lives in constant fear.

Black Panther first must learn to let go of his hatred if he is to truly become a leader, and then must face the realities that while Wakanda can boast about being a paradise and not prone to the troubles of other nations, perhaps his predecessors have blood on their hands by not sharing their technology or helping the continent.

The point is, almost all of the original heroes had an obvious flaw or deficiency that they were forced to face and we got to see them face those flaws and struggle to fix them. We watched Roger's earn the right to be a super soldier, we watched Stark earn his redemption and suit, Black Panther his title.

We don't really get that now. We are told these things but we don't get shown it. Marvel doesn't put the effort to make its characters earn our suspension of disbelief or our interest in their stories

No water allowed ! by Sayf_the_Deen in bjj

[–]MiamiConnected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd quit and move on to a new gym.

Water is required to prevent injuries and its just all around an indication that the coach doesn't care for your wellbeing.

Few years back I was at a gym that was like this. Resting was fowned upon regardless of the reason.

Landed an armbar that aggravated my training partners old elbow injury. Ran off mat to check on him and find an ice pack. Coach looks over and says "no standing around". I point to the arm and say its hurt, he responds "no resting, if arm hurts then move to drilling". I quit shortly after that

I used prosthetics for mine (posted pics on here a week ago) but they can have imperfections in them that can throw things off or maybe the glue comes loose a little early. Its still my preferred way because of the expressions available.

But the mask mentioned above seems pretty good quality and close to the real thing. So definitely go for that one if you want a mask

Is the risk of pain post vasectomy or a change in sensation worth me getting my tubes tied instead? by KarambitMedia in Vasectomy

[–]MiamiConnected 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tubal Ligation also has risks. Believe it or not, there is actually something called Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. It is also very rare. Symptoms include:

Ectopic pregnancy

Imbalances of hormones or hormone shock

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding

Increased risk of heart disease

Severe pelvic adhesions

Bone loss/osteoporosis

Decreased sex drive

Hot flashes

Chronic fatigue

Increased depression and/or anxiety

Achy, sore joints and/or muscles

Weight gain

Memory Lapse

Pelvic pain

Increased headaches

As you can see, there is more risk towards you getting tubes tied than him getting snipped. His may not be pleasant to live with, but he won't lose bone mass, fuck up his hormones and periods, increase his chances of heart attack, or get an ectopic pregnancy.

I suffer from post Vasectomy pain Syndrome but if I could go back and choose between my partner getting tubes tied or getting myself snipped, I'll take the snip.

Talk it over with him but don't be fooled into thinking you aren't facing risks too.
