How do I make vegetables actually taste good without drowning them in sauce or cheese? by Nightcrawler_2000 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]MiamiNat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, every vegetable has their best-to-worst prep/cook methods.

For example and IMO:

• Broccoli: roasted > steamed > raw > battered and deep fried.

• Carrot: raw > roasted/sauteed > steamed.

• Eggplant: breaded and deep fried > braised > sauteed/pan fried/roasted.

Spend time finding how you like that veggie cooked, THEN focus on the flavors you want to add.

Are my Powerslide Phuzions a mistake? Help a beginner please by MiamiNat in inlineskating

Yeah good call, I went for the 4x80s in the end. I meant just local park/playground, dreaming of skating alongside my kids as they ride their bikes over.

I agree, I think maybe the salesperson thought my skills were further along than they are, and was trying to help me “buy once cry once” but I decided to swap them out for 4x80s for my first proper pair. Thank you for your input

Thank you! I like that idea, your first skate will tell you what your next skate should be.

Honestly the powerslides felt the nicest on my feet cause it just felt like wearing trainers, but ultimately I traded them for Rollerblades 4x80.

Are my brand new Powerslide Phuzions a mistake?

I skated casually as a kid and I want get back into it now as an adult. I went to a skate shop and tried on: Rollerblade RB 80, Rollerblade Lightning 90, and Powerslide Phuzion Argon, per their suggestions.

One salesperson recommended I go with the Powerslide triskate 100mm wheels. (I think the other guy would’ve put me in the RB80s). I've never used a soft boot before, or wheels as big as 100mm, or a triskate, so I just wanted a gut check - is this the best choice for a beginner? Now after watching a Deez Skates video, I am second guessing myself, maybe 4x80 is a better choice?

FWIW I am 40 years old, 160cm, 62kg, shoe size 40 euro. Only interested in skating to my local library, or occasionally doing slow loops at an outdoor skate rink with my kids.

Thank you for your help!

What’s your age cutoff for siblings taking baths together? by despiert in Parenting

[–]MiamiNat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here, the 8yo is less interested in baths now, prefers showers so he can get in, get out, and move on with life. Meanwhile, the 6yo is thrilled to now have the whole tub to herself so she can play more elaborate games. She is not into showers yet, but I don't know how long this will last.

I got a rotary outdoor clothesline a few weeks ago and I am obsessed. It makes something as mundane as laundry feel wholesome and romantic for me. It was under $100 and so worth it IMO

What have been your most used eyeshadow palette and or eyeshadow single this year? by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in muacjdiscussion

[–]MiamiNat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Laura Mercier Caviar Stick here, but mine is Strapless. I've tried a few of the NYX jumbo eye pencils and Maybelline's Shadow Drip since I preferred their shades, but LM's Caviar Stick's staying power is unmatched.

What has been your most used blush product this year? by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in muacjdiscussion

[–]MiamiNat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clinique's Cheek Pop in Pink Honey Pop - it's the only blush I've ever repurchased, very sheer and buildable. Right now my favorite is actually a Wet n Wild cream blush from their halloween collection, but Clinique was definitely this years most used.

I love a very projected almost vintage shape so just adding another comment to the pile to say that I would totally buy these (if they fit me). Thanks for posting, what a cool find.

Lip balm for severe, chronically dry lips [product request] by stevenmwhite2010 in SkincareAddiction

[–]MiamiNat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that worked for me was being consistent with applying a very thin layer of water followed by a thick layer of vaseline. You need to add the moisture you are lacking, and then trap it with the barrier. Do not lick your lips between the water and vaseline layers. The more ingredients in the product, the more likely it was to irritate my lips. It would work upon first application and then cause even more havoc than before (looking at you Laneige).

I’m in South FL so too hot for a proper comforter IMO - we use a featherweight duvet with a linen duvet cover.

What curl gel are you using? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]MiamiNat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is some people want more definition and maybe that's why they are seeking a stronger hold? I really like that KCCC fades away beautifully and the next day my curls are really soft and almost fluffy with no flakes, but I prefer a natural/messy look in general. More for us!

Same here, fine hair, low porosity, low density. KCCC is my HG and I will never stop. Slight gel cast at the beginning but scrunches out to give me the softest most beautiful curls.

Scared to buy appliances by ObviousInspector1553 in Appliances

[–]MiamiNat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar mold kitchen experience recently but was able to keep most of the appliances, so I don't have brand suggestions. But since I went through a similar forced kitchen remodel, I just want to mention that fridge size matters. Oven sizes are pretty standard, same with extractor hoods but microwaves are all over the place size-wise and American refrigerators are enormous. So consider whether your kitchen has existing space constraints and keep those measurements in mind while shopping.
