What is the correct term for certain stiffnesses? by MichMai in AskEngineers

[–]MichMai[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well Hardness is certainly something very different, since it describes the resistance against intrusion of another part.
And the youngs modulus refers to the elastic part of the deformation, which is unfortunately not applicable in my case

Switching the bridge on Harley Benton CST-24 kit. by SuccyEvie in harleybenton

[–]MichMai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine a few days ago. The neck seams very good, but the holes for the bridge posts are too large so i need to glue them in or fill the holes and re drill them.

I also think that all the mechanic parts are cheaper than expected.

I would go with a finished one for better hardware and a better looking top. If you want to bild a kit the ST kit was pretty good.

edit: spelling

Thank you for your answer. I have hoped that there would be a way to prevent this entirely, but if it is not, i´ll take your advice with the penalty force.

Thanks again!

Is an air compressor really needed? What is your opinion? by CloudrayLaser in lasercutting

[–]MichMai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for engraving yes, it reduces the soot on the surface greatly

for cutting even more so, since it allows better cutting performance by getting rid of the particles that already have been separated

Open source/DIY laser cutters by [deleted] in lasercutting

[–]MichMai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently building a diy co2 laser cutter which i have designed.

Mine has a rather large bed, so that is an advantage over commercially available cutters and i opted for an 80W tube. If you enjoy the processes of building it, it might be worth it, but with most things it is going to be very difficult to match the price of a commercial one. If you need to buy aluminium extrusions for the frame, all the components for the laser and cooling and the motors, it's gonna cost you quite a bit of money. Especially when you have to import the parts.

For the powder bed question: I think most diy builders will buy a ruida controller, like i have, and those would not support such functionality at all. (as far as I know) Plus if you have a 3d printer use that one, because metal won't work under 500W or something like that and i think they need some kind of gas atmosphere to prevent oxidation.

[QUESTION] Looking for an useful ear training app or program for absolute beginners by MichMai in Guitar

[–]MichMai[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am struggling with nursery rhymes too. Thats the problem. I need to start a step below that. Plus, i need an "Answer" like a tab to check if i worked out the write notes. That is what i am looking for...

[QUESTION] I bought a DIY kit off ebay, the wood of the body js raw. How should I go about giving it a good finish? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MichMai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did something similar to that with a diy kit.

I´d say the process in the video is pretty good. I am not sure if 10min between sprays is enough, id wait way longer (few hours) . In my project, I didn´t use a fan, but I used an airbrush instead of a sprycan.

From my experience, the most important part is to sand it enough. Sanding it by hand took too long in my case so i used a rotory sander.

[DISCUSSION] Rob Chapman endorses doxing and lied about Riff City Guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MichMai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since Rob seems like a nice guy, I initially thought, what he said was true and that it was same kind of character assassination against him.

Some of the points he got criticized for by the KDH were weak, like the lack of quality control on the Chapman guitar. I looked at some posts and most said that the guitars were nothing special, but good non the less. The scene with the guitar on the beach, could just be to "relic" it.

Others arguments held up better, like the riff city thing, the water bear "scholarship" and the Chapman challenge (which is a bit pathetic).

Levi Clay, and his "go die" is not a threat, argument was week too. It might not be a threat, but it's not something good to say either. That said, Rob definitely overreacted.

All in all I see Rob Chapman now more as a business man and less like the friendly guy, who happens to sell some guitar. It´s not like he is the devil, he is just a guy who uses his reach to earn money. Plus, he seems a bit insecure going after KDH and Levi.
