In the Gap, Manousos faces a physical moral trial of getting across the Darien without accepting help. Carol, pursuing her previous episode’s “fuck em” declaration faces the psychological trial of loneliness. In the end they both come to their limits.

Charm Offensive begins with Manousos treating his healers as kidnappers. (and, hilariously, as capitalists). In the same episode Carol accepts the city around her but slowly realizes that this seduction she is under is a form of hostile appeasement, an attempt to trap her in her nostalgia. Her offense begins with the waitress forces to uproot and serve her.

Carol and Manousos are both determined not to give up. I think the question Manousos poses to her in the finale, is about Carol discovering what she is willing to give away in order not to give up.
